My XT600E currently has a barely worn in set of TKC80s they still have all the rubber nipples on them.

My original plan was this:

To take some totally road biased plastic tyres to get the 3000 miles out of Europe till we get to the muddy stuff in Turkey, change over to the TKC80s ride the dirt stuff, and the Kazakh sand. Then change back to hard road tyres to get to Russia and on entry into russia change over to the TKC80s again for the REALLY rocky and muddy mongolian bit.

I have space for the tyres on the rims and 3 tyres 2 rear 1 front.

The tyres I can get on the road are alledged to be terrible.

The wingman suggests we bring pure TKC80s two on the rims two rears and one spare front.

Oh and the TKC80s seem to be fairly reasonable £51 each however there are also a Swedish army tyre called

Trellebourg and the knobbly bit looks much more knobbly than the TKC80

Anybody tried these tyres?.

Oh and

Europe = sealed roads
Turkey , sealed roads and gravelly tracks
Central Asia sand / sealed pot holed roads
Russia , pot holed roads
Mongolia mud mud and more mud and rocky gravelly type desert
Russia Kolyma gravel track.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

It's only the mud it sounds like you really need properly chunky tyres for. I'd be tempted to get a set of road tyres that would last you 'till you need to swap, then chuck 'em.

You could always look into getting a set of tyres sent to meet you along the way somewhere.

Remember that especially with mud, the spacing between the knobs is the most important factor.
