Is it possible to replace normal bulb flasher lights with ones using LED's? I see many trucks nowadays use LED brake lights and flasher lights, which seem far brighter than those using normal bulbs.

The main reason I am considering this is because my wife's DT175 operates on 6 volts, and the flashers are very dim.

Yes you can BUT LED lights even big clusters of the things have lower resistance than normal bulbs and you will either need a new indicator relay to cope with the reduced resistance. Even halfords and HG sell them.

Or you can do it the cheaper way is trace your indicator relay and wire resistors into the circuit which is of course cheaper with resistors being about 9p each.

You'll probably have to 'DIY', as the standard ones sold for bikes tend to be designed for 12v.

What you could consider doing is adding them in addition to the current indicators, then you don't have to worry about resisters etc.

This is my ZX9 with additional LED indicator and sidelight strips. These were 12v ones sold for use as faux 'neonz'.

I realised that on my XT350 the flasher unit does not flash faster when removing a bulb. It seems as if it does not have any effect on the unit whatsoever. I have not tried this on my wife's DT175.

Seeing that the standard LED uses about 3v, I would probably have to include some resistor to the LED cluster. I will Google around to see if there are any tutorials on how to do this.

Thanks a lot for your replies.
