I want to get away, on my own, for a weekend or something, maybe longer, on my bike.

Not sure what to take, and i wont have a planned route, just an idea and basically go where i want kinda-thing.

My plan is to buy a tent, strap it to the pillion seat and sleep where i want (wise? Laughing) Because if where i am has no facilities or camping sites then i have no intention of paying for b&b's so....

My list of things will probably be along: mini-toolkit, rucksack, few bits of clothing/hygiene essentials, money, phone, a-z or sat-nav, then thats about it? Food will be fast food.

I only really thought about this earlier while i was bored so i have probably missed aload of obvious things, but i hope to do something like this in early july.

Tips, advice, help, would be helpful Smile Nick

I take;
a change of clothes,
a sleeping bag,
roll mat or airbed,
torch,
small camping stove,
couple of small pans,
water carrier,
tent,
folding chair,
toiletries,
sat nav,
camera (always in my pocket anyway)
12v battery charger,
phone,
and a bit of food (usually tea for the first night and breakfast next morning)
the toolkit lives permanently under my seat as do my waterproofs.

In England/Wales you can't always legally camp rough, you can in Scotland though. Do a search on here, think Stinkwheel and some others explain it well.

Test your tent first if it's new or not been used for a while, make sure all the bits are there and helps you be relatively familiar with putting it up.

Have some snacks and water with you in case you venture somewhere away from fast food places and have to stop.

Have at least a dry warm change of clothes and your sleeping bag in waterproof bags (inside your luggage for clothes), nowt worse than sleeping in piss wet through stuff when you're tired from riding.

Take spare bungees!

That's the minimum imo, there's other stuff I'd do personally, like having breakdown cover and a decent waterproof map.
Have fun Thumbs Up Smile

Back in 1998 I loaded up my Bros and headed off for an adventure, I took the minimum clothes, plenty snacks, camera, batteries, map (no sat nav, no phone - much to the astonishment of many friends), took my YHA card & booklet, and credit card and headed off.

I stayed at YHA on my mini tour. The always had ample secure parking for the bike, and I had a brilliant time.

Noone knew where I was, as I didn't have a phone, nor did I use the internet. I read books/magazines in the hostels, and struck up conversations with other users of the hostels, tagged along on their walks and trips.

I had a blinding time. I felt far removed from my life as I know it. Smile

Last year I did a few trips with just tent, sleeping and a few basics. All I had with me was a map for navigation and I got to see some great sights in Scotland, North East and Norfolk. I usually found a few bikers and they suggested roads to use and places to go. I did have a mobile, but no charger so it was off most of the time. My long weekend in Scotland was the best though. I did have campsites pre-booked, but apart from that I set my own route each morning and often deviated from it if I saw a road I liked the look of.

RS2, just go for it, you will enjoy it wherever you end up.

That list looks huge for some reason although there's nothing unusual there. Looks scary when it's written down. Laughing

Although I'd have a radio as well. And a map instead of sat nav. Smile

You forgot your Knife, fork and spoon though. Laughing

And a mug. Smile
