Simple really.

I will be acquiring a bike when I get back in about a month, and it will be some form of enduro/mx bike to allow for some off road action, and to help avoid loss of licence (9 points).

I'm not really up on these things too much, but have done some 'research'. The XR400 WR400 were looking promising, but may go a little over budget.

Started wondering whether a 2t would be acceptable for my needs. I like the idea of a stroker, given that they will be lighter off road (I presume) and, well, they are 2t! Thing is, the majority of use will be on tarmac, with only some weekend muddy action.

I am seriously considering a spare set of wheels with road tyres on, and another with knobblies for the weekend.

I'm not going to be caning on the roads, so no need for SM wheels/tyres.

Just a bit confused really, and need some direction! I only have 1k max to spend, I just need to narrow my paramaters!

if its gonna spend most of its time on the road Id personally choose an XR/DRZ 400.. You can get em for around a grand if you look but be careful as they are more than likely seen alot off dirt/mud.. A WR is a up there a bit on service intervals.. My mate ran a WR250F on the road for around a year from new and it was needing servicing every 1.5k or so.. Needless to say it dropped a valve after around 8k miles Shocked.. And it was being serviced by a yam dealer.. The XR/DRZ's are more reliable (my mates DRZ wasnt so but I hear they are near on bombproof).. I Think the DRZ is heavier than the XR aswell.. Good think about WR's though are that you can turn em into YZ's Mr. Green

Could also consider DR350's... they are in your price range.. bit less of an enduro and more of a green laner though..

XR400 out of your 2 as the WR is too hardcore for what you and your licence want Wink

Personally I'd get something like KDX200 / 220 / 250 as most came with autolube and indicators etc - and its 2t Cool
