Just Sold A Car, Forgot A Bit, New Keeper Now Miles Away!

Hi!

I just sold my car, got all the details, but I was just about to send it away to the DVLA, and I noticed the red section at the bottom (section 8) isn't signed by the new keeper.

The new keeper's now miles away.

What should I do? If I fake any old signature, then it's fraud, but without it, what could happen?

Ring the buyer up and ask if you can sign it on their behalf.

I've signed 'on behalf of' the buyer a number of times now, don't worry about it.

Just make sure it doesn't look like your signature. Get your missus to do it or something.

Obvious and simple solution, thanks to both of you. Called him to ask, and he was fine with it, so got my Mrs to sign so it didn't look like mine!

I did it once and it worked no worries, I knew the person but couldn't be bothered to go the 5 miles to get her to sign it (mostly as I had no bike at the time and I wasn't going to walk it ). But it worked and she got the V5c so its all good.

Sign it yourself, the DVLA has no way of checking signatures.

Send it via reg'd post to the DVLA and forget about it , waiting for a confirmation of change of reg'd keeper.

When I sold a bike frame and posted it to the buyer I just did a stupid scribble on the buyers bit of the V5 and sent it off, not like they actually check anything.

Probably a bit late, but to save fuss if they don't like the signature you could have just sent it to the guy that bought the vehicle.
