I'm looking to sell my bike and put it on ebay. I wish to put it on with a reserve as I'm in no big rush to sell it and wish to get what I think is a reasonable amount for it. However if I put a reserve on it am I then able to put a 'I reserve the right to remove this auction as advertised elsewhere' line if I can sell it another way?

Does anybody know what the standing is regarding that line and ebay in general?

Officially, you're supposed to complete the transaction on eBay :-

as above but include your phone number to "answer questions" you'll be hassled by people with not enough money but hang on for the right customer, if there's more than 12 hours left when sold, then keyword spam your advert and offer to end it outside ebay early, ebay will then cancel your listing and refund your fee's, i've done it twice!

If you do this then have a friend report your auction, I'm not sure ebay themselves go through peoples auctions, more rely on rival sellers to report each other.

I know that bike couriers are massively bitchy to each other, cos I spent 8 hours in a van with one, moaning about how his rivals constantly report his ebay ads, so he does the same.

You have to really watch what words you use in your lisitngs , if you are resevring the right to end the auction.

When i sold my bike i had it advertised eslewhere and put the following i reserve to end the item as the bike is listed elsewhere.

Which resulted in ebay removing my listing due to it being against their seller policy - (unfair terms) they said.

So not only did i have to pay a listing fee again , my items were shown lower down search findings due to my poor policy compliance.

So be careful with the words you use.

Why people put that in, I have no idea? You can cancel the listing anyway, everyone knows that, so everyone offers what they want to pay anyway (god knows how many offers I've had of £5 for my amp for example). And if you do sell it out of ebay, you pay no final valuation fees. Smile
