drum brake siezed

Giving my bike a bit of a service today, and noticed the back brake wasn't returning properly to position after braking - lots of resistance still on back wheel, which explains when it hasn't felt quite right for the last few weeks.

So, back wheel off, pull the drum out. The shoes themselves seem OK, but the lever part was very stiff - enough that the shoes were no longer pushing it back to 'home'. I tried the age old method of loosening stuck things - stick an adjustable spanner on it and waggle it a bit to 'exercise' it. Now it refuses to move at all.

Have I killed the drum bit or is there a way to rescue it?

Try soaking it for a bit in oil but keep it off the shoes and drum.

happened on the c90, easy to do. take the brake plate where the arm goes through the casings, remove any circlips ect (if there is any - wasnt on the 90) see which way the arm comes out (usually pull out from inside, its held on by the lever arm) tap it out, cleaned rust off mine with wire wool, grease (i used coppaslip) and reassemble, wiping off any grease that gets squidged out.

Thanks guys I managed to get it kinda moving with a slightly more forceful variation on my adjustable spanner technique, still sticky though. I may take the plate off again today and give your suggestion a try lukamon

I had the same problem a few weeks back. Has already been mentioned strip the whole thing mine was full off road salt
