I always thought I was a fan of Iron Maiden until I saw some bloke with their faces tattooed on his thigh. They put Eddie on the front of their album covers for a reason...

Ok, I realise there is no going back now so don't take this personally but there is no way I'd ever have someone's face tattooed on me. Even if I was a huge fan of them. It might end up like this:

10/10 for the premise.

2/10 for the execution.

Will be interesting to see when its finished though. I'm planning on getting a Metallica tattoo soon aswell, not a face though, going to take their symbols and their art and Japanesify it into a 1/4 sleeve or chest plate Laughing

Finding a tattooist is easy, finding a good one is almost as easy. Finding a tattooist that can do portraits is another story. You need a real artist to do portraits.

I've seen that before. I would have stabbed that tattooist (I use the term loosely) to death.

I take it this is the pic.

What do people think of this work? You can see the original in the background. I'm thinking of getting one of my son on my leg. Cool

That one is a lot better than the dead wife one Laughing

I think it's quite weird to have a portrait on your arm, particularly of your family. Each to their own I guess. Rolling Eyes

I really should have known better asking opinions on here, ive been a member long enough Rolling Eyes but i specifically didnt want the dark ones as posted by phantomtek as those have been done to death and are big tats, someone who has never done a portrait before needs someone willing to allow them to try, everyone has to start somewhere and getting a photo that was good enough to work from has been really difficult as he hasnt got the easiest face to do anyway. I love metallica so as long as I am happy I guess. at least its not tribal.

Please don't act like we are being unfair in our comments, I reckon most artists would tell you that that is not a good tattoo at all, like flip says portraits of faces are hard to do and if the artist can't do them he/she should stay the hell away from them. For starters, you haven't picked a very good picture of the Hetman anyway, the angles are very difficult to capture and he is pulling a weird face. I personally think that he looks better with slightly longer hair too.

Someone who hasn't done a portrait before should buy some fake skin or a hog lump from the butchers and practice on that, and only when they are 100% try on a human person. I love Metallica too, but I also love tattoos done well, I'm no stranger to bad tattoos as I have one myself, so I am not trying to cut you down or make you feel bad, I'm telling you how it is, and it seems others are in agreement. If you are asking opinions, don't fly off the handle or roll your eyes when it isn't what you wanted to hear.
