video of me trying to start it....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj2shM_v4qQ

On every couple of kicks it will backfire and shoot the kick start back into my leg which is fun, then after a couple more kicks it'll start run disgustingly then stop and pop backwards.

pretty much the sequence in the video.

I have just fitted a new Molkt 26mm carb but think the problem lies elsewhere as it was the same with the old mikuni 22mm carb.

A passer by who noticed my frustration suggested that the problem was the coil without any doubt. could it be? makes sense to me as maybe the spark is sparking at the wrong times?

I have had the spark plug out and there is definitely a good spark.

cheers!
Rich

it sounds like ignition timing, possibly the spark is firing on the exhaust stroke.

not sure how you adjust it on coil ignition though.... (sorry i can't be more useful) Thumbs Up

My TZR did something similar, the plug looked fine, but was failing in the cylinder, try a new plug, it fixed my problem straight away Smile
