HD Camcorders

Morning all. I'm after a HD camcorder to take on my hols with me this summer, but know nothing about them. Looking to spend £400 - £500 (or less if there's a good one for less than that.)

Can anyone out there impart some wisdom about what one to go for?

I've got a pansonic SD9 and am pretty happy with it so far, but haven't put it through it's paces that much.
It got top reviews when I got it around a year ago.

A friend of mine has a HD camcorder and is looking to replace it with a solid state (SD card) one as they're quieter, less to go wrong, better battery life and you're not limited by the storage capacity of the hard drive.

Sorry, I should clarify that the SD9 is a High Def camcorder that records onto SD cards . 16gb cards aren't that much and 32gb ones are coming down a bit now.

There's a couple which are designed with youtubers in mind: they record at 720p, and aren't that bad as cameras.
The Kodak zi6, which is about £90 records at 720p; i use it as a bike-mounted camera, because it's so cheap, the controls are glove operable, and it's solid state.
The Toshiba camileo HD (about £110) also records at 720p, but has one of those pistol grip shapes, which is a pain for me to use on the bike.

A lot of the cheap ones don't handle fast motion very well at all.

Thanks guys. I'll have a look at the SD9 and see how cheap I can get it.

Yeah I was advised against the You Tube style ones because they are low quality if you watch them on a big screen.

Not even sure how much I will use it, but I guess I can always sell it on eBay when I get back.
