Usual 'easy' way is to take it to a dyno and shove a rag up the exhaust, make a home made throttle restriction or similar.

Or you could write 'it is 33hp, honest' on a bit of paper, which would have as much legal authority as anything else Smile.

i doubt they would accept a mechanics 'word'.
Regardless of the legal requirement, they are looking for an FI certificate or a dyno print showing the power.

Call them up and ask what they want.
The 'FI Certificate' is bizarrely linked to the rider, so from what they say is not relevant if you buy a bike with it on unless you pay to get it changed to your name or something silly - or so I'm led to believe.

The matter of what license you have never came up when I was requesting a quotation, other than if it was a full or provisional one

my insurance company accepted a letter from my mechanic saying he had fitted the restrictors (which he actually did) but ring up and ask first if they will accept it.

First thing I would do is ask them what they regard as proof of restriction and why it wasn't mentioned when you took out the policy. As it wasn't requested then and there is no legal grounds to suggest it was required then it isn't required as part of the insurance contract although when it comes down to it your insurance is basically void anyway as it's a contract of good faith.

Well if they have any brains then they will know that anyone under 21 who has held their licence less than 2years will need to be restricted.

OK, I'm over 21, only passed the A2 and have just bought a 650 Bandit, which is in the process of being restricted. The insurance company showed no interest in asking the question. I had only passed the test 7 days earlier.

why did you do a2 and not direct access?

A confidence thing I guess, never rode a bike before, and the 125 route seemed the easiest.

Regretting it now though, after passing the A2 my mate lent me his 600 Bandit to try out in a disused industrial park, and I was amazed at how much easier it was than the 125.

The internet is great but.....

When asked by a insurance company to provide proof of something do you....

A, Ask them
or
B, Post on the internet for what that will be.......

Kinda gotta wonder sometimes..... Rolling Eyes

Tom1528 wrote:
u can buy restricted certificates off ebay for about 20 quid. they back-date the certificate to before you had it etc. thata what i did haha

I think the joke is on you wasting £20 on something you can get for free......

Laughing

Just remember the cert is not about the insurance, its about your licence...
So that cert as far as the police are concerned is worthless, as is even a proper F1 one.... Your bike will just be tested, and if not restricted. Possbily impounded and you up in court for failure to comply with licence regulations...

And if they were feeling horrible on that day, also do you for no insurance.

Exactly my point, you're over 21 and recently passed a full test so one could easily assume it was Direct Access as they only ask you if you have a full licence not an A2 or A. As I said, if you were under 21 then they are likely to ask for restriction which i'm guessing the original poster is.

A lot of police will be quite happy with a certificate from what people on here have posted. In some cases police have even less idea - for instance thinking the limit is 600cc.

Possible your bike will be impounded and you'll end up in court regardless of wrong-doing.
