im typing this from a hospital bed awaiting surgery on my spine. if i dont have this i will go incontinent and impotent, if i do theres a chance ill be disabled in one leg or paralised from the waist down.

i have majorly prolapsed a disc, was admitted to a&e on fri after seeing the gp.

feeling shitty. not looking for sympathy just wanted to get it off my chest, feel alone
how things change in 24hrs.

sry for punctuation hospital tv is hard to type on

I have a similar condition, not one but two discs have gone though plus other complications meaning that surgical intervention isn't the wisest course. I know there's a couple of other people around here with the same sort of problem, you're definitely not alone. It won't be much comfort but despite being told a couple of years ago I was going to be losing pretty much everything below the waist or at the very least require a wheelchair for daily use it hasn't happened. You can stop things getting worse and in some cases help yourself to get better.

No spinal op is "minor" but a discectomy (what I'm presuming you're in for) is about as routine as it gets, you should be fine Thumbs Up

Must be almost 30 years ago my brother was told the same thing, and despite being in a crash and rolling his car over 4 times on the motorway last year he is still up and on two feet!

Good luck and be positive!

Not sure if you have had the op yet, but I hope it goes well. Living in such a way seems so hard for yourself, and others around you. Hope you get through it okay

hi,

op was ok just learning to walk, having to build it up again.

but no drop foot, numbness etc so in 2 months i will be ok.

no bunjee jumping or lifting heavy weights from now on, will need a new job but was going to uni this sept anyway - i guess ill just do 4 months on light duties. also must be in shape as 6'4" and heavyset so thatll have to change.

im thinking maybe to call bikes a day. didnt injure it on the bike but much more vunerable and likely to be paralised if i do fall off.

did it at work but dont want to be specific im sure you understand. started ciatica suddently went numb

heres to a bit of a slog and a change of lifestyle

Smile Neutral Question Rolling Eyes feeling lots of diff emot atm

Hope you recover quickly cabbage - you will need all of your patience... and, as you have said already, you mustn't be tempted to lift anything heavy - it's easy to forget when someone asks you for a hand to shift something.
