Anyone else had trouble with this?
My other half is kind of resentful towards bikes anyway since I now spend more time fiddling with them than I do with her. Shocked .

Just wondering on any tips you guys have used to get the Lady (Or gent Confused ) out and about on the back.

I have taken her out a few times on it but probably burnt my own bridge trying to impress her with my 0-60 times.

But still there's moments on a lovely summers evening when your on your own just touring about and really wished you had someone else sharing the same moment, so I would like to get her back on the seat if possible.

I'll try plying her with handbags and empy promises that I'll put the dishes away from now on but I don't hold out much hope.

Untill then... over to you.

Same dillema here, partner won't even sit on it stationary.

Eldest daughter exactly the same, younger one keen to go but no lid at this moment in time, and the grandson (8) keeps nagging the shit out of me to go on the back, again no lid.

Any one know of cheap lids for kids, don't wanna spend loads if he only uses it the once.

If she wants top come with you then let her decide in her own time...
Nothing is worse than pressure from you and the fact you were a tit and scared her when she was on there in the past.

Mrs will pillon with me, but if i do anything that she feels is risky, then she is not happy to get back on again for a while...
Daughter will happly sit on the back all day long... It amazing what dad turning up at school on a bike does for their image and standing Laughing

It does have to be something she wants to do, or she will just end up a quivering wreck on the back and then spoil it for you.

Just a little Penny Coin from me!

I've only been a pillion twice and my God it's boring, which is why I learned to ride. Both times were on big touring bikes and I was so far hidden behind the rider that all I could see was the back of their jacket! Just a lot of helmet noise and hedges going by!

My ex and I were booked in on the CBT together, but he bottled it, as he didn't want to fail. I understand not wishing to take a pillion so early on and the first thing I did was buy a seat cowl. Not that I'd have been able to take him pillion, as I can't wheelie - 6' and 17 stone on the back, I don't think so! Shocked

I don't have much of a problem with lasses tbh, and laura seems plenty keen to jump on the back, taking her pillion for the first time tonight though so that may change!

i find its other drivers who dont want to go on the bike, not sure why but thats how it seems!

My mrs couldn't wait to get on the back. She had her kit bought before I passed my test. Although i've scared her a few times on it Id probably say the best way to get your mrs on the back is go for a 'nice' ride. Decent weather, day out somewhere stop for lunch etc. Not go out to kane shit out of it lol.
Altho now she wants to do her cbt because she wants know what all the fuss is about.

I don't ha ve a problem here.

Not a woman alive who would refuse a ride on the back of my babe magnet ybr125. I just pull up to hot chicks, "hey babe, lets leave this old town behind" and the women are fighting to get on my back seat.

Seriously, if you've got a pillion and you're trying to break your own 0-60 times, not good, I'm afraid.

Unless you've got a fellow petrolhead on the back, who's up for it, your riding should always be conservative with a passenger. Simple truth of it is, your actions could end up killing that person - keep it calm, staid and sensible. Thumbs Up

It is a reasonable thing to worry you might both get wiped out - especially if you have kids.
But plenty of couples have no problems at all.

If you have a long crash free history it's going to help - if you're having incidents every year maybe it is for the best to avoid pillions altogether.
It is a great responsibility if they get hurt even if it's not your fault.

My GF was pretty anti-bikes. But she's been out a few times now. But that was on the bandit with a nice big pillion seat. Not been out yet on the zx6, she took one look at the little cotton-bud seat and said 'fuck that'.

But you just need to make her feel safe and to trust you on it.

1. Get her as much gear as is feasible (definitely her own helmet that fits)
2. Go for a little pootle to start with. Don't even get above 30 get her used to being on a bike. Work out some signals for "shit I'm scared stop" or "I'm ok carry on".
3. Then work your way up to longer and longer rides, showing her you are safe and responsible, stopping a lot to make sure she is OK.

If you rode like a twat first time out then you might have burnt your bridges already and scared her off. In which case that's a shame.

Remember, just because you are comfortable on a bike doesn't mean everyone else automatically is.

Iv been trying for over a year now to get my wife on the back and im still nowhere near succeeding. Its not a trust issue as she is more than happy to let the kids come on the back, more a lack of control issue with her. If you do find a way let me know, it would be fantastic to share some of the experiences with her.

Ps dont ride like a tit with her on and you might have more of a chance of her coming on again Thumbs Up if i had tried inpressing my wife like that im pretty sure she would be impressing her fist into my face straight after Smile

The wife was happy to come out on the back when I had the BMW, but since the bike is more for commuting and "me time", we use the car when going places together. I don't ride like I usually do when I have a pillion, so the benefits of riding a bike (quick overtakes, filtering, quick off the lights) is lost and you may as well be in a car anyway - enjoy the music, conversation and the fact you don't need to kit up.

When finances are better, there's more chance of her getting a scooter and coming out with me than with her pillioning.

Training would be my tip. My missus has always been prepared to ride pillion but is way happier since I joined the IAM.

I have the opposite problem. She would really like to try and go on the back but suffers from travel sickness. She can't sit in the back of a car without chucking up. Front is no problem.

She really wants to give it a go but we don't have a lid for her. We don't want to fork out a load of money on a lid and then find she can't do it. Catch 22.

She seems really up for it now I have the CBF1000. Originally I had a Ninja, and she took one look at the pillion "seat" and said "That ain't a seat, it's a sanitary towel!" Very Happy

Every biker alive loves a hoon now n again, but don't brag about it in earshot of future pillions Wink
Smooth is the word. Make it a mini challenge to be easy with the controls as poss.
Riding pillion is boring and so it should be Twisted Evil They should get their own bike.

I have been lucky with this new one.
Took her 100 miles last week - was funny when she got off tho, would just collapse on the floor in pain from the riding position.
But, she wants to ride pillion all the time now Thumbs Up
I thought I would put her off because im quite rough with gear changes, and also I like to have a little play
(accelerate so they hold on, then brake a little so the legs grab you on the hips Razz Laughing but expect a whack across the head soon after ) Thumbs Up Mr. Green

I am not short of people wanting to go pillion, the problem is no spare helmet (that hasnt been bounced down the road)

Tempted to get a £60 Lazer one in probably medium, but again that raises the issue of them only being legal, not neccessarily safe with a potentially poor fitting helmet

I have taken a few pillions, ranging from experienced and having to check he is still there by dipping my elbow, to first time moving around especially at slow speeds.

Once you can ride with them not headbutting you everytime you speed up or slow down you are a smooth rider, it makes the trip nicer for them, which means they are more likely to want to go again. Smile

I started riding pillion because I wanted to share something that meant a lot to my ex. Prior to that I'd liked the *idea* of bikes but was very scared of them and I also had issues around physically being able to get on and off due to dodgy knees etc.

Trust was the main thing in getting me on my ex's bike, I trusted him as an experienced rider of at least 25 years and that he wouldn't scare me - it also helped that he had just bought a Bandit 1250GT, I don't think I would have got on the back of his ZZR600.

Anyway, I was scared, very scared but my trust wasn't misplaced and I also enjoyed it and felt very proud of myself for overcoming a long standing fear.

We split up after only 5 trips out on the bike and I really missed it so I found new friends with bikes for pillion rides which progressed to doing my CBT, getting a CG125, passing my A2 test and now I've got a CBR600F but I still enjoy going pillion from time to time because I can't ride as spiritedly as my experienced friends/other half so it still has lots of thrill factor plus sometimes it's nice to sit back and enjoy the scenery.

We're off to France at the end of May and I'm going pillion rather than taking my bike and I'm cool with that.

My point....trust will be a big factor and experience - take it easy, especially with a nervous newbie on the back and they'll far more likely want to do it again.
