I'm guess I can't be the only one on here, and since this season is rolling around again I thought I'd share my attempt to cure it with you.

There's a bloke on the other side of town that makes honey from a hive he keeps just over the road from my house.

I'm eating a couple of spoonfuls of it a day to see if it works. I'll keep you posted. The theory is it introduces small bit of pollen to your body and desensitizes it, so you don't get the hayfever. This is why it needs to be local, and unfiltered. So all the pollen is still in it.

It's even better if you can get hold of the actual honey combe and eat that. (wax and all).

Note it has to be local unfiltered honey or it won't work. Supermarket honey is mostly imported and then filtered and heated to hell so won't work.

I feel like Winnie the Pooh at the moment though.

I have heard of this as well. Also, My other half and I use this nose probe thing that shines red light up each nostril - it's a form of phototherapy that inhibits production of histamines. Worked for us and especially her who gets it really bad.

I'm thinking that will only work if your hayfever is the result of the pollen that is sourced by the honeybees, whereas the large percentage of hayfever sufferers (including yours truly) are allergic to grass pollen, the remainder allergic to some kind of tree pollen.

Besides, desensitisatation takes a long time to occur, if at all, therefore expect about 4-5 years of trying this before you see resutls (if any).

I got one of them fancy nasal probes that neil.martin mentioned last year. Your stick it up yer snoz for about 3 minutes 3 times a day. I got mine mid-season though so can't really say for definite if it worked or was just placebo effect, I'll know for sure this year when I start using it as soon as I get the familiar intra-cranial itch and the irresistable urge to claw my eyes out.

I used to be crippled with it every summer until I refused too any longer. When I felt it coming on I'd tell myself something like "it's only grass it can't hurt me" (or something like that) over and over again. Sounds hippyish but it worked. Mind over matter? Who cares it worked. On days were the pollen count count was through the roof I would keep a piriton with me just incase.

I was skeptical when she bought it home but after trying it for a day it worked for me and my nose was completely cleared up.

Also I found this thread on Moneysavingexpert that has a lot of good reviews of it.

I just grew out of hay-fever. Had it very badly as a child and all through my exams - tree, grass, flower pollen and animal hair. I was always around pets and hay at the stables would leave me itchy for hours, but I couldn't resist and seem to have eventually stopped getting it. Mum used to buy me honeycomb, so maybe it did work, but I've moved lots since then and it's not come back.

I still have a pretty acute allergy to mice and will know if there's one 'loose in the hoose' as I get all sneezy and my eyes start to get red and itchy. Glad I don't get it from pollen now though, as all the fields around home have rape growing and the pollen from that has to be seen to be believed - my window sills turn yellow!

I just remember it being very miserable and never ending - itchy all day and unable to breathe at night

I was working recently for a guy who specialised in allergies in the workplace, it was most interesting.

He gets a lot of referrals from (1) labs where mice are used in testing, cos lots of lab workers have allergies to them, either before (but unknown to them) or otherwise they acquire allergies whilst working with them; and (2) bakers, they get a lot of flour allergies, due to constant use of flour, so they get sensitized to it, and laid off or put onto another section.

Had a guy while I was there, was allergic to something where he worked in a zoo, but there were so many animals they couldn't send specimens for tests on all of them, so he had to be put on light duties, poor bugger.

I was advised that if you put a smear of vasiline in each nostril and pinch your nostrils shut to create a ring of vasiline, the pollen sticks to the vasiline, seems to work for me.

I spent a fortnight on the Norfolk Broads one year, by the fourth day I was completely miserable as it had been solid sneezing day and night. I finally cured it my rubbing English mustard up behind my soft pallete (applied with a jumbo hotdog, for those that want the mental imagery haunting them for life). I couldn't smell anything for a week and everything tasted of mustard, but it worked.
