hi,

I really fancy next years holiday to be in egypt, I've had a quick look on tripadvisor and the top hotels seem to be miles/hours from the pyramids.

Where's best to stay in Egypt to take in these sights?

Really look for something all inclusive, 3+ stars, and i/we dont mind travelling and even staying over night to see the pyramids.

So anyone got any tips?

Thanks
Ian

I've always thought it inconvenient that they built the Tombs in the middle of the Sahara, rather inconvenient for day trippers Laughing Wink

Stayed in 5* when in Egypt as they dont' appear to be graded in, errrr..........quite the same way as we're used to! Rolling Eyes

Paid no attention to hotel details, sorry but general gist was :- Hilton or something in Cairo which was very close to the Pyramids and only for two nights - one day for Pyramids and another for Cairo Museum and city markets. Then down to Luxor for a night or two (can't remember which hotel, sorry) lots to see there with Karnak, Valley of the Kings etc. Then we got on Nile Boat for several days to see sight along the way down to Aswan Dam, then on to Hurghada to loaf about! Very Happy

Wish I'd had time and money to get to Abu Simbel but will have to do that another time!

Edit: It was Le Meridien in Cairo 4* but I can't find the details of which hotel it was in Luxor!

How long are you planning on going for?

I went this year in Febuary and stayed at Sharm el Sheik for a week, 5 star all inclusive.

We arranged a couple of excursions one of which being a day trip to see the Pyramids, Museum, Papyrus Shop, Citadel and a meal on the Nile. It only took a 40 minute flight to get there and the tour guide was very good.

If you want any more information just let me know.

just a week as we plan to use it as our summer honeymoon with the proper 14day honeymoon in the following winter (want to go to canada/greenland/scandanavia area)

just need something relaxing, she has Ibiza in mind but I really want to see the Pyramids etc and have heard that Egypt has some pretty reasonable hotels, only thing is they seem to be some distance away.

the jist seems to be that you can get pretty reasonably excursions (by plane) to the pyramids from most places so maybe i need to find more info on those rather than concentrating on being close to them.

as said an overnight or daytrip wouldn't bother us, 10hrs on a coach might though.

Well we went with first choice and stayed at the Coral Sea Imperial, which was a great hotel. The staff were very friendly, it was all inclusive so I had lots of local beer and the food was decent as well.

The trip to see the pyramids cost about £200 each. This included the flights (airport only 15 mins away) and all the tours I mentioned before. I thoroughly enjoyed the day out although tired at the end of it. We left around 5am and got back the same day at about 8pm the sites are very close to each other.

The beach at the hotel was really nice and the sea was so clear. Its well worth getting a mask and snorkel and an underwater camera. We also went scuba diving, quad biking and had a meal under the stars.

There's plenty to do at Sharm el Sheik I'd happily go again. I think the package cost about £550 each but this will obviously depend when you go. In February it was around 28 degrees every day.

We went to sharm for our honeymoon in Early September, temperatures in the high 30's - low 40's C. Unfortunately we got a nice looking hotel with cra**y food and I got gastroentritis Sad.
Ain't much to do in sharm el sheikh unless you travel out, if you like vegging on the beach and snorkeling it's superb, best way I could describe where we were is dual carriageway interspersed with Hotel, Pharmacy, Junk shop, Bank (repeat x 10). Did an excursion out to the desert which was fantastic though, saw shooting stars and got some decent nosh. Couple of people staying in our hotel did trips to cairo and pyramids but one was held hostage by a gunman and had to pay 100EP to get away.

Really wouldn't, the place is a hole.

The pyramids aside, theres not a great deal else exciting and the locals are complete shitmunchers.

Why don't you go to cyprus on holiday, then you can do a ferry trip to egypt and israel. Actually, they probably don't do the israel part anymore Thinking
