https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8035002.stm

Apparently, interested citizens can register on the direct.gov website for a card which will be capped at £30 for the first two years.

Wouldn't it be splendid of no one bothered...

Other points of interest from the arsehole who is Jacqui Smith:

She wrote:
"ID cards will deliver real benefits to everyone, including increased protection against criminals, illegal immigrants and terrorists," the home secretary said."

I cannot believe they're still peddling that line, its utter rubbish. If I get mugged can I issue my assailant with a nasty paper cut with the card?? Rolling Eyes Perhaps I can deflect the bullet fire by the illegal immigrant with it... Fucking hell, they must think we're all stupid!!

Annoyingly people from Manchester are already saying: 'if i have nothing to hide why wouldn't I want one?'

You might have nothing to hide, but your government thinks you do. The apparatus YOU vote for to govern the country, the people YOU give the very cushy job of making laws think YOU are guilty by default.

Worse than that, they think YOU are stupid enough to believe that carrying a plastic card will somehow protect you from crime, terrorism and illegal immigrants!! I'd laugh were it not for the more serious ramifications this whole idea brings... Not to mention being patronised by the inexpressibly vapid Jacqui Smith.

Thumbs Up

But I thought having an ID card would mean terrorists wouldn't be able to attack me ... after all they say it will protect me ... have I missed something Wink Laughing

As MM states, it will get to the stage where you can't work, you can't breathe, you can't fart etc. without having an ID card ... they will force it on us whether we want it or not ... after all, isn't that what the government always does.

I've held out on getting my driving licence updated to get rid of spent convictions and to change the address ... why, because I'll now get charged £10 every ten years to update the photocard ... wonder how much that'll be upped to by the time ten years have passed!!

Air side staff are already being effectively blackmailed into having them.

Air plane drivers (I think they're also called pilots) are railing against it saying its hugely unfair: I support them fully.

So, its already happening.

I was thinking the same thing here sat at my desk, I work for the NHS, what if they decide (in a government fuelled fake show of support for the government Neutral ) all civil service type people must get them.

Thumbs Up

I'll be doing what I can to avoid one in the normal course of business. If it wants any biometrics above a signature and a fingerprint I think it's verging a bit close to the mark of the beast, and I definitely won't be having one.

I'm not sure where I stand on them as I can see the pro's and con's on both sides. I can see new employers wanting you to have a card so it covers their backs as they are starting to get done for illegals being employed. I can see uni's wanting them and any official interaction such as banks, driving tests, hospitals etc, and for very good reasons, BUT there are so many reasons not to too.

The cards are not replacing anything, such as passports, driving licenses, proof of age etc, but are an added hassle.

I can't see them enhancing anything.

I won't be getting one.

As a guy said on North West Tonight 'Why would I pay the government £30 to lose my personal information when I can do it myself for free'

They can go and feck them selves.

I've seen this mentality before in France when at Uni, and you can't do anything without one, you could even be arrested for not carrying your official id.

And now these control freaks want my biometric info as well, no fecking way.

I'm not political, but I will be voting Tory, they have said they will scrap the scheme, that and I now hate the lying thieving, non elected labour scum bags, I voted for last time.

ID card.

Voluntary.

£60.

How monumentally stupid is the person who thinks "Bargain! Best get mine quick!"

The companies leading this are beating the credit crunch.

At the moment if your passport gets lost/stolen you have it cancelled and replaced. In the future when your DNA information is held in a series of "0"s & "1"s, protected by code written by the lowest preferred bidder, what happens when your ID card is compromised. How do you get back something that can be copied infinitely?

They can go fuck themselves, I won't let them tag me with one for shit, and I think I'd spend time in a cell for my troubles as well, though depends on how they try to blackmail me at the time.

Change bank or use a different shop. Loss of busines would soon wreck any such policy.

All the best

Unlikely. After all if you ran a business and had an easy way to gain extra customers by not putting people through hassle that your competitors were insisting on would you cut your own throat and drive those extra customers away?

All the best

Not in the slightest. Businesses want money. If government give them money for something they will do it. If something costs them money (either directly or through lost business) then they are not going to go for it without a benefit to outweigh it.

All the best

Wouldn't work, unless they start asking for ID and payment up front - and that's not going to happen. If I've stuck a tenner's worth of petrol in my bike and am standing there with a tenner in my hand, they can either take it with no ID, or provide me with a letter saying that they refuse to take my payment and I can keep the fuel.

Which has got nothing whatsoever to do with wanting to see an ID card before selling something.

Im sorry man let me break this down to a speed at which you can digest it....

Business to function follow rules and regulations. You seem to think they can chose, this is not the case... if you would like to find out as i said open a business do not pay tax and do not follow regulation-see how long your business lasts... now once you have done that experiment sit down...take the time to consider what will happen to business"s when its a regulation that they must scan the card of each customer in order to do business with them..do you see where i am going?
