Hi

When I did mine I was told to wear studry foot wear, I wore my work steelies but a couple of the other lads there had trainers on which the instructor didn't comment on.

I've heard horror stories about the steel toe caps bending into peoples feet in accidents but thats also possible in an industrial environment.

I'd say any type of boot which provides some sort of support must better than trainers etc.

Cheers

Jon

wear sturdy boots. they say something that covers your ankle because if you happen to come off you will want your ankle protected as much as possible.

they will probably have pictures that they will show you on your cbt theory part with the damage caused by wearing trainers and tracksuit bottoms.

they recomend sturdy boots, heavy jeans as a minimum and heavy jackets, also proper gloves.

Hello,

I also heard that about steelies being a nono.

I did mine last year in my trainers, they had jackets/helmets/gloves there. When I passed I went out and got myself some boots.

You shouldn't have any problems, I'd never been on a bike also and managed ok. Be patient, listen to what they say and be extra careful when you go on the road Very Happy

Good luck young un.

That was on mythbusters. It can happen in extreme circumstances but 9/10 cases it will offer protection from impacts. Most common scenario is the metal compressing and remaining compressed, crushing the toes.

Though if something was heavy enough to crush the metal... wtf would it do to a foot with no protection Sick

Show that you respect biking. Wear some sort of protective equipment and unless you like having someones sweat laden sponge against your face, take your own helmet, they cost like £30-£50 for a basic full face BOX helmet. Smile

It was the first time on a bike for me Bloke, I didn't know what to do, they told me they supplied protective gear. Never gave it a second thought I'd have to wear the smelliest gloves ever.

I held my breath, risked getting nits but got through and loved it. There's not many people that can afford to go out and buy all the gear not knowing whether they will like biking or not.

It worked for me, the poor girl I did it with hated it though!

i'd take my own helmet. when i done my cbt i turned up in my full biking gear. i had my lid, gloves, leather jacket and textile trousers and biker boots.

the only piss taking was as i entered when the instructor shouted over "oh fuck here comes a real biker"

the classroom part i was actually used as an example of how to dress. sure it was a little embarrassing but it was reassuring to know that the money i had spent was worth it

think of it from a safty aspect too, you know your lid fits you properly and only your heads been in it. you cant say the same from any school supplied lid.

why risk it?

Get down an army surplus store, cheap set of used army boots will cost about £10 and will be ideal until something better/more £££ comes along. Thumbs Up .

lol you won't be the only one there. I turned up with my own helmet and gloves. Someone else turned up like he was about to ride a bloody R1.

It just shows your instructors that you are serious about biking, have taken the time to understand the safety equipment thats available and aren't just another "scootah boi" turning up to ride a twist and go and then to cause hell around his local streets.

Ultimately the CBT is there to give you training, but you have to prove to the instructor that you are safe to go out and ride a machine capable of motorway speeds on the local roads that his children go to school on, the roads he drives/rides on.

Think about it Wink

BTW... Argos to a "BOX" full face helmet for £45.

I tried not to think of all the greasy south london hair that had been in the helmets when I did my cbt, however the stench from the gloves was impossible to ignore, I guess it's just something you have to bear, where are you doing ur cbt?

Yeah but you cant try it on first... Which is probably more of a safety issue than wearing a school lid, or even potentially a second hand one... Thumbs Up

Well i didn't have any choice as our instructor wouldn't let us without our own helmet, had full talk about dropped, sweaty, ill fitting helmets and can understand it, altho instructor got well pee'd when one lad waiting with us dropped his helmet intentionally so he could answer his mobile??? This was whilst waiting and chatting but he wasn't impressed!!

I would advise you not to wear your steelies, My CBT the instructor didnt mention anything about me wearing trainers other than "try not to put your feet down in those as you will ruin the soles pretty quick"

And I am told riding in steelies makes gearing harder which may be a problem for you if youre really new. (Though it doesnt really make any difference as far as I can tell)

And even if you do wear the steelies, dont worry about the toecaps deforming and ripping your toes apart, if the force is enough to deform them it would have ripped your feet to shreds anyway Very Happy

Well i bet it couldnt of went as bad as it did for the 16 year old that turned up for his cbt for a moped, no other helmets would fit him so he was stuck with the brightest pink bike helmet i have seen haha he felt so ashamed, but i guess if u dnt bring your own thats wot u should expect i guess. Lol
The lad was full of himself and was so close to failing his cbt, he even had the nerve to say that the lads that were here to do the cbt on the 125's will do worse when they go on the road, which he was wrong and went off in a huff when they were filling out the certifs lol

Welldone on completing your cbt by the way.... enjoy, done my cbt and bike theory weeks ago so the cbt was the least of my worries as mod1 is slowly coming up lol
