What Oil for an FZ750?

The light is on and I've got a big old bottle of 10w40 in the shed, is this good enough or do I need something else?

The oil pressure light? Thats not usually a good sign...


Or does it have a service interval light or something?

No idea, just says OIL.

It's been standing outside for months as my dad has a new bike and I haven't passed my test yet.

The battery runs down really quick and when I charge it back up and try the starter the oil light comes on.

Only when I press the starter though, the rest of the time it's just the Nuetral light.

Hi

The FZ750 uses an oil level warning light (not pressure). From memory when you press the starter it illuminates just to show the bulb still works. So just check the level manually.

FZ just wants a pretty generic cheap oil. They listed 20W40 SE spec oil (if the temp doesn't go below 5 degrees) or 10W30 SE spec oil (if the temp doesn't go above 15 degrees). You would stuggle to find such low spec oil these days.

And I don't know if it goes off after it starts, I can't remember and I reckon the battery is pretty much fried.

Hi

I would use 10W40. The bit above is from a 1985 Yamaha service info book, and oil has moved on a fair amount in the last quarter century. Narrow viscosity ranges were normally preferred as wider ranges required more additives (and the additives are the bits that wear out).
