Car Rental for 21 year olds?

It seems that car rental seems to have all but barred 21 year olds from renting cars these days with 23 being a pre-requiste for most companies, however myself and 4 other 21 yo guys are going to take part in the three peaks challenge at the end of this month and we want to rent a car for a few days, We need something Ford Focus sized, an estate would be a bonus, but most car rental companies don't give much information about their young person surcharges.

Just thought i'd see if anybody else recommended a car rental company for anybody aged 21/22?

Erm National rents cars to 21 (min age) however they limit the car selection to the very smallest cars, and add a £14~16 premium to the hire daily. A wife of an ex work colleague works at the Manchester branch and confirms that this is the case.

Also rent cars to 21 (min age) types but there is a £110 per week premium but you are not limited to tiny cars.

Also would be a good idea to just phone around some of the rental places in your area - type car rental then your area into the yell.com site and ring around. I had to rent a tranist to move some furniture a couple of years ago and whilst most websites said that 23-25 was min age, some of the larger companies offered me the rental, just with a bit on the deposit and premium (and a lot more on excess mind you!). I eventually found a firm local to my area who didn't charge me any extra on the day (but stuck an extra £100 on the excess). So give them a bell, you never know what you might get!
