Hello all;

Haven't posted for a while.. so thought it was about time. I really should reserach it but its easier asking here + it might be informative to some.

I am planning on borrowing a mates bike this summer for some touring (a 2001 fazer 600). He is the legal owner of the bike but he bought him self some badass KTM enduro tourer type monster so this is spare for some use.

My questions are:

Can I add the bike to my insurance policy or infact take a separate insurance policy on a bike that I don't own.

Can I be added as a co-owner (on V5) and then take out my own insurance on the bike. He can't add me to his insurance as I'm not 25 years old.

Say I took insurance on it but don't own it (if its possible) would this cause any problems with foreign police ? i.e. names don't match.

Is the easiest way to do it for him to transfer the ownership of the bike to me and then me insuring it etc etc etc...

Any helpful advice will be much appreciated.

I get the impression you have your own bike as well?
Check your policy to see if you're covered on other bikes. As long as your insurance covers it, and your mates bike is insured, it should be fine.
Don't know about co-ownership of the bike as I believe the V5 is for the registered keeper, and so you would have to be living with him or something.

From then on, I and the bicycle feelings deeper.

1. You'll have to ask your insurance company to find out if you can add it to your current policy. You can take a seperate insurance policy on a bike you don't own, no problem.

2. Errr, don't think so, you can take insurance out without being the owner or registered keeper.

3. Wouldn't have thought so cos you'd have all the documents and there's nothing illegal about riding a bike which isn't yours.

4. No need to change registered keepers, you can insure a bike which isn't yours.
