I saw a GSXF heading down the road earlier (sorry if you own one of these) and it made me think...

Generally I like alot of looks of the naked commuters, but the faired ones never look great, some look 'alright' but I can't think of one that I think is stunning.

Do manufacturers do this on purpose?

I.e

Customer "I want a good looking faired bike"
Dealer "Oh we have this *insert bike* right here"
Customer "It's OK, but looks a bit bland"
Dealer "Oh well, may I suggest this top of the range sports bike that costs nearly twice as much?"

Thoughts? I mean, they've all made some beautiful sportsbikes at some point, surely they could do it with a cheaper version?

I quite like the newer style SV650s:

However, your reasoning is quite logical actually. Preys on the consumer to want to look good on their new bike so make it look bad so they a buy a more expensive model..

Maybe you should run an auto business. Laughing

It's good looking but the front end looks weedy as hell which is what lets it down.

I have to agree with the OP also, unfaired look nice and rugged. The semi faired look half finished and never quite there.

Commuter's fairings are designed for comfortable riding.

I personally like the half fairing as it gives the benifits of its top half protection and you then do not have the dissadvantage of a full fairing in that you have to take the side bits off to tinker with the engine.

Perhaps because people who commute aren't obsessed with looks? they tend to prefer a cost effective bike with a comfy seat and softer suspension to absorb all the bumps. Anyway, i don't think they look that bad...

I agree that some look alright, and some look even fairly good...but never one that has the *wow* factor.

Maybe commuters aren't so bothered about looks, but a half fairing costs the same, no matter what the costs. Surely if they made them look better (they clearly can as they do it with other bikes) they would sell more?

But then if they did, wouldn't they sell less sportsbikes? As a faired commuter that looks awesome would actually be far better for the road?

The fairings are more designed towards weather protection and wind protection for the riders. The person that buys a bike like that, wants it to be fucntional - do the job etc
