Advanced appology, i've just written this out and it seems really badly worded but if im honest im knackered and dont really want to go through and re-word it all, sorry if its a bit hard to make sence of.

Its less than 100 miles since my bike hit the 30k miles marker and its started making a rattle from what sounds like the clutch area, to be honest its more of a rhythmic clicking and doesnt appear to speed up with the engine revs, Ive not properly looked into this yet so it may speed up and is just being drowned out by the exhaust note and it may be comeing from a different part of the engine.

My tickover has always been set at quite a high speed, 2k rpm, this has dropped by about 500rpm, the bike also seems to pull alot less above 70mph than normal, although the top speed seems to be the same.

The reason im thinking for the above is mechanical however there is a second thought because...

Recently i decided to ignore all warnings and wash my bike with a jet power washer, since then the backlight on my clocks has stopped working, but other than that the bike appears to be mainly fine, except for on two short occasions when the bike refused to do anything other than idle twisting the throttle just seemed to flood the bike and it had no power at all, not even enough to pull away. switching the bike off and waiting for a minute seemed to sort this out.

Infact now im writing this out a third thing comes to mind which may have produced the flooding effect.

Being the end of a very financialy tough month ive been running around with a next to empty tank, i mean like running on fumes, the first time it did the whole flooding type thing, or coming to think of it it could have been fuel starvation Confused was before i got to fill it up, i had done 140 miles on 7 litres of fuel and was right at the bottom of the reserve, the second time however i had filled up so it cant have been starvation, unless something had gotten into the carbs when i was running on empty.

So my three areas of concern, Mechanical, Electronic, Carburation.

Which of these do you think is causing the above issues?

Apologies again.

Does it still rattle if yo upull the clutch in ????

Yes, then its can be anything... No then its the clutch.

As to the fueling issue, could be that running it so low yo uhave sucked a load of crap into the carb's and it keeps blocking a jet.

The Light, well bulbs don't last forever..... Just stick a new one in... Thumbs Up

A clicky-rattly noise from a GPZ500?

Almost certainly just needs the carbs balancing.

The dash bulb has probably blown.

Your air filter may well need cleaning or replacing (poor acceleration at top end, bogging at low revs).

I think Kickstart had problems with water getting in the tank on a GPZ500. I never had a problem with any of mine. That usually causes kangarooing and misfires in my experience.

When I infrequently bother cleaning a bike, I always do it with a pressure washer. The only problem this has ever caused me is a wet arse riding it away and a lack of braking effectiveness from drum brakes for the first mile or so.
