Sad from VisorDown

DFX Ducati Corse rider breaks vertebrae in high-speed crash, airlifted to hospital

REGIS Laconi has had a massive off on his DFX Ducati in the opening laps of first practice and is in a critical condition.
Laconi was immediately airlifted to hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma.

So far, information about the crash and Laconi's condition have been varied, but reports suggest he suffered a particularly violent highside and was slammed to the ground. However, he did not hit any obstacles. Laconi can move his legs and neurological damage is thought to be limited. However, surgeons are due to operate on Laconi this evening. Sad

GWS.

Hope he gets well soon, too early in the season to start losing riders.

Neukirchner is out as well with a broken leg after the crash at Monza last week.

That was a truly terrible accident too...taken out by a rogue bike.

Hopefully Laconi will recover, it sounds like his injuries are very serious. FWIW the clinica mobile site now says:

Quote:
The MRA performed at the hospital showed brain swelling with petechial bleeding and fractures of C3 and C5 (the latter resting against the spinal marrow).
The observed T7 injury is an old fracture. Laconi will most likely be operated on next Tuesday and may not be transported back to France before a week.

Probably not the right thread to say this in, but Kyalami looks like an awesome circuit. I've never seen any racing from there before and it makes a nice change to see a 'new' (to me anyway) track that isn't computer-generated toss.
