Ideally one for Keith...

Just curious really as to how different the gearing is going to be on the TZR engine in my pit bike, Compared to how it was in the TZR.

Standard TZR set up:

Front Sprocket - 16t
Rear sprocket - 45t
Rear wheel - 18"

Pit bike setup:

Front Sprocket - 17t
Rear sprocket - 35t
Rear wheel - 12"

Hi

Very roughly 9% lower. However the tyre profiles probably will make a difference.

(17/16) * (45/35) * (12/18).

All the best

Keith

Lower being?

Taller gearing or shorter gearing on the pit bike?

Hi

Lower = shorter.

Top speed could still be a bit worrying on that!

All the best

Oh thats good, As long as it wont make the gearing taller than the TZR. I need to keep it torquy because I wont be running a VPVS.

And yes, I'm looking forward to a top speed run.

Hi

Years ago Charlotte had a TZR125 which went round most of the time with the power valve clamped open. Went OK at low revs, certainly not as bad as an RS125 with the power valve stuck open.

All the best

I've heard they are okay just to lock open.

I think I'll try it set differently and see how I get on.

Cheers again Keith.

Very Happy According to that site if I fit a 130/80-17 rear tyre and a 17 tooth gearbox sprocket the top speed of my GPZ500s jumps from 120mph to 133mph

Hi

If you want some idea of what the real effect of changing the gearing is then get a dyno graph for you bike and put the details in here:-

All the best
