Hi guys,
My Sachs Roadster 125 seems to be idling perfectly, but if i give it any throttle, the engine cuts out. Could it be a dirty carb? Any ideas?
Thanks a lot,
Leo

Sounds like a blocked main jet. Strip and clean the carb. Thumbs Up

If it's still the same then check the condition of your spark plug.

Check plug first. Easy to do. Should be light brownish. There are various pictures on the internet of good spark plug colours.

If its good, then clean the carb. Get someone to help you if you don't know how and don't loose any small parts.

Thanks guys. I checked the spark plugs, and theyre ok, so i guess its the carb that needs a clean. If the main jet is blocked, what could i use to ublock it?

by the book you should only use compressed air

personally i find an old clutch or throttle cable, seperate the steel strands until you get a single peice of thin wire and run that through the jet several times

Don't use steel, it can easily damage the brass jets. Use a strand of nylon or something. Compressed air is best though.

If you are cheeky once you have got the carb(s) off take them to a local garage / engineering place and get them to blast them.

The smaller the place the better, they tend to be friendlier. Smile

if your lungs are big enough give it a blow yourself!!! make sure you wash the fuel off before putting it near ur mouth though lol.

failing that, a fingernail brush, and just push the jet onto the bristles so the bristles go through the jet hole. make sure theres no "jelly" in the bottom of your float bowl either, as that was the problem on my gsm's when they did that.

Ok, looked over the carb, put it back in, and it seems alright now. However, because i dont have a battery for it as of yet, ive been jumping it from my car. When the jump wires are on the bike, its completely fine, but when theyre taken off, it doesnt rev at all, no matter how much i open the throttle, and just keeps idling. Another thing i noticed, that with the jump lead off (while its running), turning any lights or indicators on makes it suddenly rev up. Even the passing light button did that. What could be wrong?
Thanks

so you can rev it with jump leads attached?

Sounds like electrical problem now. Check the HT lead and spark plug cap. That's the thick wire going to the spark plug. Make sure its connected properly and no corrosion anywhere.

And when you say you rev and it keeps idling, it sounds like your throttle cable sin't attached properly either.

Do you have a mate who knows about bikes. Much easier to diagnose and fix if someone's there with the bike.

No the plug cap seems spanking clean.. The cable is in properly too, and if i move the throttle plate by hand, nowt happens either. But then again, when connected to a battery, everything works fine. Is it perhaps an alternator problem?

I'm not sure about your bike see. Could be that it needs battery power to run.

So everything works ok with the car hooked up? If this is so, check fuses, all connections, rectifier and battery.

Checked those, they seem good. Since it works good with the battery hooked up, would i be an mot faliure that it doesnt work properly without the battery? Stupid question, but just checking.
