I say 'just bought' ... I have entered into a verbal agreement with a mate ... as in "I will have that and give you the money at weekend".
So! I guess the purpose of this post is not to boast about my new vehicle, but to show you what I have got and garner your opinions / advice ... just in case its a total 'loser'
ie: is it a good price ? ... Transit a good van ? etc.
£1000
1999 Transit SWB 80 - 2.5 litre diesel.
Genuine 78k (all with mot tickets)
Fresh MOT (advisorys were front pads and tie bar bushes)
Boarded out with tie down points.
Bodywork very good .. except some small rust bit on bottom of rear doors.
Interior extremely good (no rips or stains!)
2 x bike ramps.
Fairly good service history (all services up to 40k... then a gap... then 2 full services in 2007 and 2008)
Bloke I bought it off is a well to do mate who doesnt have a bad bone in his body .. so the prevenance is as good as I will get with a 2nd hand van !
Genuine reason for sale - sold track bikes and baby due in 3 months .. given up biking and sticking with racing his track porsche !
Faults:
Stereo code lost
In past year has failed to start twice ... clicks but starter motor wont turn ... 2nd gear quick bump and it starts straight away ... then works for 6 months ??? new starter solenoid / motor ?)
Bit of rust at rear ... not an mot issue, just not pretty.

Four thin bits of metal should do it, if I remember. Think I used some kind of food-skewer or similar?
If there's decent pipework going from the exhaust to the inlet, it's probably got a turbo.
Doesn't really matter if you've got it... it's as fast as it is.
My turbo one was quite flighty when unloaded - first and second gear doughnuts quite easily . |
