CSA commiting fraud?

I've been fighting with the child support agency for the last year after they demanded 10 times what I was due to pay.

This is close to getting sorted after getting my MP involved but in the process I think I've discovered something rather alarming.

Because they believed I was in arrears the changed the date of a credit I was not aware of to a date some 7000 years in the future. As a result at any time a balance was worked out. Before that date the £400 credit was not included in the balance.

Now this makes me wonder how much money has been credited to this future date, we have fathers commiting suicide over their treatment by the CSA and yet it seems the agency may well be stealing from those same fathers.

I should be getting a written explanation in the next few days and a full account breakdown so we'll see what they have to say then.

Would a freedom of information request cover finding out how much money was credited to dates in the future?

You could go for it but they are feckers and is it worth the hassle? As long as what you are paying for your kids is fair they are just doing there job. They do make mistakes but lots of blokes try and force mistakes and play the system. Makes it worse for those who want to fairly support their kids.

I once had a final demand from them for £52,000 (that was a pretty scarey moment). I had just stopped being a student for 3 years and was earning £13,000. They sent my file to N Ireland after that debacle and I have not heard from them since. ( This was all ten years ago, kids all now over 18).

For the sake of £10 i would put a DPA request for the info they hold on you now, before they get chance to ammend any errors that they have.....

CSA what a complete sham. I feel for the thousands of fathers who are crippled financially by these useless tossers.
I'm lucky as i sorted out payments without having to get the CSA involved.

Dont know if they can actually do it but they threatened to take my mates driving licence off him, he is a wagon driver with a pregnant wife and two kids, he earns about 400 a week, they were leaving him with 80 a week to take home for a good few months but he eventually got to keep 199 as protected earnings. Come the winter his work dropped his hours to part time and he was taking home about 200 a week, its was his firms fault not his yet they threatened to take his licence away.

Shocking really, but i do agree that financial support should be given by fathers, the system is shit and they seem to get away with anything they want.

If I paid a deposit to them 10 years ago and they hadn't processed it then I would expect interest. As we are now officially in recession (lets say 1% to keep it simple) then when I have a payment dormant 7000 years in the future then I would want the payment returned based on current interest rates, hence should be worth a fair bit more than £400.

Might be worth putting a claim in that way, would certainly make them think twice about doing it again

My brother has just been told he has overpaid £800 and that it is to be deducted from the outstanding 'debt' he has with the CSA. He's had to pay about 60% of his take home, leaving him in terrible financial stress for years, as his too was based on overtime included. Any new girlfriend would have had to declare her income, so he's not been able to live a normal life, but his ex has been fine - it's been heartbreaking, so I'm kinda glad it's all over now, even though it's very sad.

His kids have just been adopted by his ex's husband, an American on benefits in Scotland (how does that work?). Her life has been just fine raking it all in on benefits! She kicked my bro out once she had the boys and has never let him see them - long but all too common story. We're not allowed to see them either, which is such a shame. I've sent presents every birthday and Christmas for the past 10 years and not even had a thank you, so I've no idea whether they actually know they're from me. Still, she's changing their names now so time to stop, me thinks!

I hope with the over-strong legislation they have to rip most of a blokes pay packet off him, that there is also some similarly over-strong legislation for the woman it gets paid to to prove she's spent every single penny on the kids and not on shit for herself.

Of course, there won't be.
