33 BHP, if the police caught someone Shifty then took it to a dyno, could you easily remove 2 plug caps, to make it less than 33bhp?

Thanks

"Not speaking as a copper, but speaking as an avid biker, and one that's been through the restriction period.

FI international have the monopoly on restrictor kits. They will lead you to believe their certificate is the legal requirement and charge you the earth for it.

As far as I know, and again, speaking as a biker. The law says the bike must just make less than 25kW, so 33bhp. I believe it would be legal if you just removed 2 plug caps. You don't legally need to prove it with a certificate or anti-tamper screws or anything.

In Bristol where I went to university if police suspected a local moped to be making too much power (or in the case of mopeds able to go faster than 30mph) they would put it on a dyno.

So I guess if police ever really wanted proof of your bike's restriction they'd put it on a Dyno.

In reality, you'll never be asked to prove it to police. It's not part of the producer form and the majority of police aren't aware of the need for restriction.

Some insurance companies require it. But none of mine did. And those that do will accept an FI International certificate or a dyno graph. But to be honest, the certificate just proves the restrictors were once fitted. Not that they are now.

So...as long as it makes less than 33bhp at the rear wheel on a dyno, it's legal, however it's done. That's my interpretation anyway.

Bet that doesn't clear anything up, but I hope it does.

We know that already. Paper means nothing. If your bike puts out more than 33bhp its illegal (within 2 year period of a2)

You would still be breaking the law by pulling 2 plug caps off as you would have been riding round full power and then changing the power of the engine before the dyno. Also, some bikes have hard to reach plugs or plugs with the coil screwed in over the top.

my sig says my stallion power although when mine was 33bhp in reality i opted for the washers in the air intake. got a garage to do it for me.

i'd rather ride a slower bike than no bike at all Smile its my transport not a road racer, take my time enjoy the relatively decent mpg and the decent torque from the v4 engine Thumbs Up

i did however have a mate (tyne and wear) who got pulled and points, im sure he got a fine too, not riding within the limits of his license or something..? was lucky i think, although his insurance has not went up...alot! silly boy! im now enjoying premiums or just over 280 fully comp! Thumbs Up

i'd opt for the restriction and keep it until your legal to take it out, means its like a new bike after it aswell!

I 'could' take the plug cap off mine if I was ever stopped, problem being it's only got one plug anyway!! Would be under 33BHP though! Laughing

What you could do if you wanted to be legit would be remove the spark plugs and fit blank plugs. Probably wouldn't great too great, but it would be under 33bhp, I don't think just taking the caps off would be enough since you can easily just put them back on.
