I currently have a 51 plate Ninja which does have sentimental value, but after having it for almost a year and travelling more, it's getting more and more expensive.

I've always loved supermoto or MX, supermoto being the more practical of the two (roads everywhere here).
I'm also feeling the yearning for the to go off-road, rather than the outright speed that the government has removed the freedom of; plus all the bloody speed bumps in the area on a sports bike Mad ! Not sure if you have experienced Liverpool's roads, but they are the worst I have seen...

So my question would be, how is the Husqvarna 610 for general day to day commuting? Does it cope well with long distance rides/cruise speeds? Also, I get up to about ~50 MPG on the Ninja, how does the Husky compare? I do wish to have a bash off-road occasionally and a few jumps, as well as carrying a pillion.

Also is it possible to get a test ride from a dealer?

Thanks in advance

Sam

Yes, it's possible to get a test ride from a dealer. I bet there's a lot of motocross tracks near you - but I suspect you're getting motocross confused with trail riding.

Think fuel consumption is about the same.
Note that the TE610 is the enduro/trail model; the SM610 is the supermoto model. However, if you want to do off-roading, it's best to go for the TE and get the supermoto rims, as it's harder the other way around on newer models.
I've used my ktm690 for commuting fine; it's very similar to the Husky 610.

Thanks for the fast & informative reply G

I did mean trail riding, and I'm not sure where some would be apart from Northern Wales...

Will attempt to get a test ride and will see how that goes, but I'm 20 and it would be illigal without a restriction, also heard they don't usually allow under 25's (immidiate no in my mind).

Anyone want a go on a Ninja so I can try your Husky? Drop it & I drop yours Very Happy

Erm, that's a KTM I've got, but you're welcome to blag a go... but you'll have to meet me here (that's Reading, by the way Smile ).
I got a test ride on a Husky fine, but was 28 at the time, talk to a shop and see what they say - worst they can say is no.

Within 200 miles of getting my KTM brand new I was riding it in a Hare and Hounds, so I may be a bit less worried about dropping it... but don't worry, I've only dropped /my/ ninja once this year Razz (and that was crap tyre with frosty ground - ie poor judgement Rolling Eyes.)

Talk to your local TRF - if there is one, there's probably some decent trails, they just don't tend to be so well advertised.

Lol cheers for the offer G, but I could use the petrol money for a deposit! Will ring about and see what they say tomorrow via local dealers on husky's website.

I've already dropped my J2 in the miserable wet, doing a U'ie with a pillion (gf Thumbs Down) and getting my shoe caught on the lip of a pot hole - double slap as road tax is spent elsewhere.... Neutral

Cheers about the heads up about trails, will be interested to see.

I used to live in Caterham Thumbs Up

I'd like to agree mate, but they would have to assume it's restricted (cough, ghhm) and would assume they wouldn't be covered by their insurance if I wasn't legally obliged to ride their bike.
I'm hoping they are quite desperate to sell bikes atm.

Will let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Cheers

Sam

Do you have any mates who ride bikes who have a unrestricted licence? You could get them to get the bike on a test ride for you, they ride around the corner and drop it off too you and you go for a ride.

Totally fooked on the insurance front though.
