Heya, my NSR has started to develop some electrical gremlins and i have no idea how to begin fixing them.

First off when i start the bike it is slow and difficult to turn over.

Second is the rear lights do not shine at all, had new bulbs fitted recently as both of the filaments in one side were gone and one of the filaments in the their had gone and welded itself to the other filament.

The rear brake light will shine when the rear pedal is presses but will not on the front lever.

The indicators will only flash while revving above 3000 revs.

The brightness of the front headlights vary with the throttle

And finally ... there are no dash lights.

So does anyone have any ideas what the problem maybe and how i can fix it?

Thanks in advance guys

yep its still there! so thats a bonus Very Happy

What should i be checking it for, will try get a multimeter on it tomorrow but not sure what i should be testing.

As far as i know the battery is over 2 years old, is that a good age or should it last a bit longer than that?

Battery maybe nearing it's end and is not holding a charge that well.

Check spark plug for signs that may indicate a problem in the mixture if you're running to lean or to rich! Either that spark plug itself needs replaced.

Headlight will become brighter with more throttle!

You may have a connection problem in the wiring loom and/or fuse(s) may have blown or become faulty and so check for that just in case!

Output from battery should be about 12v and when you rev it the voltage should increase by about 1volt or so and that will show it's charging!

2 years old could possibly be on it's way out if not maintained i.e. being turned on for long periods of time without turning the engine over and/or left standing for months can potentially drain it completely - It's almost impossible to recover a dead battery.

If bike is to sit for a few months then it's best to remove the battery and store in a dry place and give it a periodic charge to keep it topped up.
