Hi there, basically, I started a new job not long ago. I'm a chef, work long antisocial hours etc.

The resturant where I've started at only has 4 chefs, The head chef, a second chef, myself and a trainee.

I've been there about a month now, and the second chef started at the same time as me.

Recently, the second chef has started to get overly agressive towards me, shouting, swearing, complaining I'm being irritating etc. The head chef and the owner of the restuarant have no problems with what I'm doing, (to the point where I got a pay rise before probation is over) and yet the second chef will still be abusive, mainly to me, occasionally to waiting staff. The problem is, the second chef is a woman, a lesbian (proper manly dyke) from some american island, shes ridiculously arrogant, and agressive.
The thing is I know I'm not doing anything wrong, which makes me not care about anything she's saying, but it's just irritating, and makes things uncomfortable for other members of staff. If it was a bloke a few quiet words outside would fix the problem but theres no such luck being as much as she doesn't act like one, she is a woman.

I don't know what to do, I'm not going to go above her to the head chef or owner because it's not worth the hassle, but the restuarant (front of house) manager has noticed theres a problem and think's it's unfair, however as the job is just a stopgap for me to get some money before going back to college september, it's not really worth making a big deal out of problems at a job where I'm effectivley just using them for my own convenience.

Any thoughts?

If you arent comfortable going to the head chef then jsut ask her politely in front of other people if she has a problem, ifso what is it and for her to calmly explain why she believes you are doing something wrong.

At a guess if the front of house manager has noticed something then i would guess that he/she will have said something to the head chef or his boss anyhow. it could just be they are waiting to see how you handle it prior to stepping in.

However you handle it remain calm and professional about the whole situation, you will gain a lot of respect from your colleagues and you can hold your head up high as behaving professionally at all times. I can speak from experience from this as i have gone through this sort of attitude from a colleague for about two and half years now. When i finally flipped i still remain professional and she has wound her neck back in now.

Does the restaurant have an upstairs? Longish staircase?

Push her down the stairs, preferably while holding something made of glass full of hot liquid. That'll learn her.

Aggressive bull dykes are just cunts, no need to pander to them. You won't fuck it or make friends with it, so you might as well just kill it.

Ask her in front of others if she always bullies the people under her or is she just doing it to you. Ask her why she feels so insecure that she feels the need to act in such a way. Remind her that she is a Cook and only men are Chefs.

Wow she does have problems....

A Yank and a dyke..... Nowt worse, when combined with being a 2nd chef... Embarassed

Guess she really want to be on top....

She is just trying to stamp her authority, and from the TV progs seems many chef's have a major problem with people skills.... maybe thats why they prefer to cook.....
Have a word with the front of house guy, about it and see if any of his staff have mentioned her attitude to him.
The owner really does need to know about this as it could lead to many of the staff saying sod it and leaving...

I wouldn't normally give this advice but it seems appropriate.

Punch her in the tits!

I think she is just trying to make you slip up, being a bully because of her insecruities (you're better than her) and the fact you are male (she is sleeping with a woman). Sounds like a general bitch.

I'd just find a way of showing her up in front of everyone, but in the less harsh tone and that isn't a personal attack.
Or just act a lot more confident everytime she insults you, from playing football at a semi-pro level I learned that people will try their hardest to put you off your game, will use anything and be full on cunts to do so. If I up my game when they try and show that if anything it's making me a better player they stop and it's puts them off.
