Okay just recently i dwnloaded a program that shows you your cpu usage in your icon tray. When i start my computer up its at 100 ( full ) when you go on task manager it shows that the three avg things. User interface, task tray and the other are at the top. So you exit everything to do with avg and it goes back to like 1 - 6 when reealxed and normal computing.
Start avg all back up again its stays fine still, whats going on ?

You may have something working in the background;

Anti Malware Bytes it's completely free to use & update, but you have to manually press the update option to check for latest version and that's why it's free as it doesn't do it automatically!

The connection for Malwarebyte's program is an excellent freebie and is really good at finding nasty programs. Soon as you've downloaded run it's update option to get the latest virus detection list & updates.

Main website page about it

Also, you may have program(s) which is part of Windows itself that is working i.e. Disk Defragmention program automatically scheduled and/or another program when your system is idle, but remember Windows does do periodic update checks too. You can have other programs that you've installed that maybe working in the background when you're not using the keyboard/mouse after a short/long period of time.

Also, here's another good program to have Disk Defragmenter by Auslogic which is also a fully working free program which you can schedule to scan or not;

Another one from them is Registry Cleaner;

^^^ That's all well and good but if the high usage goes when you close AVG, perhaps it'd be wise to assume the problem lies therein until eliminated via other means, and simply adding more programs will not fix the problem.

Look through your AVG options. I personally don't use the program, but the anti-virus we use at work automatically updates when you start the PC, and there is an option for it to do a scan while doing so. It could even be doing a scheduled scan that didn't complete?

What happens if you just leave the PC alone? Does the usage stay at 100% indefinitely, or does it go back down after a while?

Is the hard drive working during all this?

Which are the three AVG processes?

AVG has 3 scheduled items; scan, database update and program update. If you look under Tools -> Advanced Settings then expand the Schedules node of the tree, you'll see them.

Each one has the option of "Run on startup if task has been missed". You've probably got a database update scheduled for something like 6:00am, or something similar.

That sounds like it.

I'll have to have a look at these anti-virus things, I don't tend to use any but the Sophos we get inflicted on us at work...

Linux... nom.

I think that more information is required before a solution will be found...

What program did you download to show the statistics? Some are less than accurate. I would personally rely more on the Task Manager that is built into Windows (accessible by right clicking the task bar).

Is this displayed within the application you downloaded, or within Windows Task Manager? As others have said, the initial indications are that AVG is using a lot of the processor, which it shouldn't be.

It sounds very much like AVG is set to check for updates and/or scan when the computer starts up.

I use AVG on my laptop (the free edition). My system is set to scan every day at 12 midday. Though I often abort it as it eats too many resources.

What is your virus definition update schedule set to? What's the program update schedule set to?

Another thing that may cause a slow start up with AVG is the Resident Shield- what options do you have here? ("Scan on close" and "auto heal" in conjunction will grind the machine to an almost complete halt on boot up).

How many other processes do you have running on start-up? This can be checked by clicking Start > Run & typing "msconfig" then following the dialog.

HTH.
