I love Mark Thomas .... forgotten how good he is.
(even if he is your typical trotskyite)

https://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2130977739763182534

Love the way he tells the copper to "stand over there"
and the marijuana growing complex on the secret base.

2002 - so not 'current affairs' ... but Rolling Eyes

I like Mark Thomas, he has a good way of putting things over without the tin foil hat. But you can see why on many of the sites why they are not listed. yes you could argue that if you were local or did some research you could find the info out, but it stops the opportunist, or the halfwit doing something silly.

I love maps too and like the way roads evolve and change over hundreds of years. I even have the claim to fame of having a road named after me.

Haw haw Laughing

I've read a couple of his books and been to see him at the Edinburgh festival, he's very engaging. He was milling around before and after the show with the audience just shooting the breeze.

He was promoting his 'As Used on Nelson Mandela' book. He spoke about how he got a bunch of school kids to set up an arm's dealing business. Half a dozen 15 and 16 year olds managed to buy thumb locks and stun batons (both illegal to trade in Britain) in one country and sell them on to another... Interesting stuff...

He makes a lot of good points but fully admits to being a naive socialist.

Thumbs Up

Then he's already got a better handle on politics and reality in general than most of the socialists I know. The real disadvantage of working in a university is the amount of shonky politics that gets shouted at you, and the socialists are the worst at my workplace. Bunch of absolute spanners, most of them.

Having watched the program fully through and ejoying it...

Best bit is when he's talking to the RAF female press officer at Burghfield. He's asking about 'burghfield' and she's saying 'oh we don't call it that, we call it the underground tunnel network...' He asks what happens if you want to get to a specific part and she's stumped because apparently none of it has a proper name.

Shows the programs age though, that complex is now pretty much open now.

Interesting to see stuff like that...

Thumbs Up

Delivered a load of components to the AWRE once, gods know why they didn't use their own staff. Climbing off the bike with two machine guns pointed nonchalantly in my direction and an emplaced .50cal almost trained on the bike was a bit intimidating.
