Anyone done it? Return flights are about £500 and I reckon it would be a decent enough holiday in itself, anyone know much about it? Wink

I would also be interested in seeing any historical sights, ruins from the Spanish conquest etc.

Cheers!

Considering the current pig pox that is doing the rounds... Not a place to visit.
Which could explain the cheap prices, just make sure that your travel ins will cover you.

Sorry, I've been busy snorting coffee and drinking coke all week. Also went on an amaretto and coke diet. So far I've lost 2 weeks! Mr. Green

From what I've understood, the pig pox is from Mexico. So I'd rather go to Colombia rather then south of the states or Panama. Although I could most likely be wrong. But I have heard of nothing from my relatives who always update of things.

ColOmbia.

COLOMBIA.
CO-FUCKING-LOMBIA

God damnit! Laughing

Right let's see.

Exhibit A: Kidnapped? Raped? Mutated?

Highly unlikely. If you know what I look like, then you know I don't really look Colombian. Little bits here and there but I look more British. Which is a shame really. In fact, being a kid I was probably one of the biggest targets. Young, don't know what the hell I'm doing or what's bad/good. High priority target because I'm white, bleach blonde hair and they would think my parents are European and therefore rich (which most Europeans there were, not us unfortunately). And I live in Bogota. In the Capital. For 10 years. Also travelled to Medellin and Ibague. San andres. Nothing ever ever happened to me or my mother. Actual tell a lie. My mother did get mugged once. But she beat him with her handbag and he run away. Pregnant with me at the time too. Don't mess with my mother. Twisted Evil

Yes like in any country, in any city, in any part of the friggin world if you go to the wrong place you're likely to meet trouble. I actually feel more threatened in London than Bogota though. Also, with the new (or recently new) president they really are clamping down on the guerilla and FARC.

Exhibit B: Drugs? Coke? Weed? Coffee?

Now, this is where you'd have to be most careful really. Yeah you can find weed easily. Really really easily actually. My sister's friend got half a tesco's bag worth of weed for about a fiver? Yeah loads. But not high quality. Personally I wouldn't know where to find it. Or anything else. But someone definately will. And most people will know you're European/American so they will most likely deal you shit. Almost.

But in the be "careful" part. If someone comes up to you and offers you weed/coke/whatever, do be careful. Although this was a long time ago Police used to (possibly still do) go up to people and offer to sell drugs. People try and buy, Police reveal themselves and basically say "give me all your money or you can spend the next couple of nights with your new 16" best friend & fuck buddy Roberto, but he gives only" And they keep the money to themselves. It's happened but not to anyone I know or anyone's uncles, cats, dogs, sons, twice removed half sister from the mountain.

Exhibit C: Colombian life.

As you may have guessed already Colombia is completely and utterly different to the UK. Country is much much prettier some of the roads are friggin fantastic (although extremely deadly) but the people there actually know what having a life means. They know how to party. They know how to be happy.

Everyone in the uk is Mr and Mrs miserable, bar few. But too far and few between. Oh it's too cold, oh It's too hot, oh it's too in-between, oh it's too late, oh it's too early, oh it's too wet, oh it's too dry. Man shut the fuck up and do something?!

No matter what the weather, wet, dry, cold, warm, granny humping, soiled, etc they will do something. They party whenever, wherever. Pissing it down outside? Fuck it, lets go outside and have wild erotic sex underneath the palm trees. That sort of thing. They drink like no tomorrow, they eat like no tomorrow and they party like no tomorrow. Actually remember once still drinking and dancing at 7AM when my friends parents got up to go to work and they pissed themselves laughing. Then we stumbled to a breakfast diner thingmajig and we waited 10 mins until they opened and ordered breakfast. Shouting and dancing and drinking and eating breakfast while some bunch of people just started work and they started enjoying themselves too. Ahh the memories Laughing

Oh and one thing is for sure. I wouldn't recommend driving or riding there. It gets a bit crazy! Laughing

Exhibit D: The country

The country really is absolutely friggin beautiful. I miss it to bits and I want to go back there as soon as I possibly can. The views, the weather. The people. The roads. Just utterly orgasmic. The beaches. I'll keep this simple but seriously, the views you can see are amazing. See what you can. Even the Bogota has high mountains and beautiful views from there. Night time as well. Thumbs Up

Exhibit E: The women.

Drooling

That is all.

Exhibit F: Food.

OMG. The food there is fangfookingtastic! Try everything. Ajiaco, arequipe, empanadas, bunuelos, arepas. Everything. The hot chocolate as well. Freshly made. And you get this cheese which you can leave it to melt (can;t get it in this country Crying or Very sad) and it's so good! Ajiaco, is possibly my favouritest dish EVER. It's basically a soup. But not. It's a soup, with 3 different types of potatoes, chicken, corn on the cob, avocado, rice, boiled egg, guascas and other things. Not a big fan of guascas but meh. All of it together or bits here and there. It's delicious. Utterly divine. MY whole week is better just by having that. And arequipe. It's basically spreadable caramel... In a way. It's hard to explain. But you cna have it with obleas which is basically a wafer thin big round thing and you have it as a sort of sandwhich. So good. So rich. So delicious. I have some here actually.. Might make one in a bit and take a couple of pictures Laughing

And one restaurant you MUST visit. Andres Carne De Res. It's basically THE restaurant in the whole country. Nothing fancy. Just amazing food and drink. But the parties there are phenomenal. My friend said she went there at 7-8pm and didn't sit down till about 3am when most people had left. Try the food, try the drinking and definitely go for the party. Seriously can't miss it. Everyone knows where it is.

And one more thing. Let people know you're not American. Nobody is fond of Americans. But the Mexicans and South Americans especially detest the gringos. And don't think you are one Wink Gringos are the "norte Americanos".

And one other thing, read "The Gringo Trail". It's a book about 3 fellow British potheads travelling around South America and they have a couple of bits around Colombia/Bogota but the general idea from the book and what it perceives of the people in the continent is the same for Colombia really.

You could have gotten away with that one, most of us probably presumed you were trolling to get him into the thread. Not that our Mr.m0l0t0v tends to bite when trolled with that particular hook, not at all Wink

Still wrong. Laughing

Drug lords wouldn't give a toss about you.

It's the Guerilla that would kidnap you and ask for ransom and even if they got paid they'd most likely never ever find him again! Laughing

I'm like a fish. I see something wriggling in front of me and I have a tendency to bite it Laughing

And Mark, no I can't say I've ever seen fake tits on teenage girls or any woman in Colombia TBH. Might be in some places. But then again fake tits suck. Wink
