In all fairness, Being only 17, I'm not going to remember them as they stopped making them 4 years after my birth, But the bike seems to get a LOT of interest from older bikers.
I seem to recall CZ won a fair few Motocross championships, yet all the classic bikers have told me their engines were severely sluggish (I've easily noticed) for a two-stroke, but, In their words, Bomb-proof.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Just a quick personal opinion on CZ? Thanks. =) |
I have one. They are slow as fuck, look it but apparently not comfy. I had mine running for one day, got it to 45mph and then it stopped, I don't know why I haven't examined it, as I got it for 50 quid I'm not fussed. In fact if you want mine for spares you can have it for free.

There are CZ race bikes and there are CZ road bikes. They look similar but they are not the same.
The road going 125cc bikes are based on a model made during WW2 by a firm called DKW. The bike was the RT125 and is the great grandaddy of all 2-strokes. After the war, the Allies and Russians went into Berlin and pretty much gutted the place. They both pinched the design.
The Allies made the BSA bantam and various versions of the villiers motor based on the designs. The soviets made LOADS of different ones. The DKW factory became MZ and also kept making them.
So what you have there is a cheaply made, communist era Czechoslovakian copy of a Russian copy of a WW2 German motorcycle.
The build quality is astonishingly poor although the design is very good. The performance matches it. They are however extremely easy to work on and the many breakdowns they suffer can normally be fixed at the side of the road using the toolkit that comes with the bike.

Thanks for the info, Finally I can shed some light on the History of Cassandra (Yes, I named my CZ =P)
Upon reading about the RT125, My bike doesnt have that engine, It seems to have the engine of the MZ TS125. My engine says it pushes out 10bhp at 5500rpm. Is that correct? or sound anywhere NEAR correct?
EDIT: Just done some more research on the TS125, and YES... that is my engine =)

They are all BASED on the RT125. Variations on a theme. The BSA one is a mirror image, the MZ TS motor is the RT125 with 30 years of R&D.
10bhp is optimistic but probably correct assuming a fully functional motor and assuming it is a "good" engine (and believe me, there are definately bad ones! I have a Jawa one with warped crankcases.). As you may have noticed, the bike weighs enough to suggest it was made of leftover bits of T72 tank. Performance suffers accordingly.
Even on the 250 and 350 models, the world ought to be going by at 55mph. Just relax into it and enjoy holding everyone else up. Calm down, sit squarely in the middle of your lane and ignore everyone else sat in the dense cloud of blue 2-stroke fumes behind you. It's almost a form of zen.

I just thought. MZ also did a modern bike in the last few years called the RT125 which is what google would throw up. I mean this one:
