Bike Test Question

OK, I am training my GF to take her main test on my 500, its going well so far and she will take her theory soon, then book it up fo her. And after looking up on the new 'harder' test, it looks more fun that hard. here is the new module 1 that they must complete;

Anyway, the problem I come up with is regards insurance, has anyone done thier test on a 500, not using a DAS course? If so, what insurance options are open to you as a learner on a 500 doing a test?

Any ideas or experiences?

Not sure about the new test, but when I was training last year I was told I was allowed to use the 500cc bike only when with a Certified Instructor (I was able to use the 125cc all I liked obviously, as I'd done the CBT) I'm thinking that if you're going to be training off the road on a course the rules may be different for private land, but there's the getting there blah de blah de blah!

I bought an er5 and did my lessons over a few weeks. Bennets insured it no problem, the only condition was I could only ride it under instruction of a qualified instructor, I coudn't just ask a mate with a full licence to follow me about. Cost £100, no NCD.

You would have to ride up there with her as pillion let her take her test. then have her pillion on the way home.

I have seen a few people around oxford on 500 with L plates with no instructor around...

What are you all on about lightning? What is that, and don't say the bloody weather.

OK that is interesting about the instructor part, I will give the robbing insurance company a call to see if they can insure her for the test I suppose.

I'm leaving in a little while to go and watch someone do a module 1 at Enfield. She's treating it as a scouting exercise, reckons for a tenner it's worth a go just to see what she needs to practice.

my brother is doing his next week, he's doing both on the same day however.

he has his module one in the morning and a 1 hour break (if he passes) for his module 2..weird!

i presume he's under alot of pressure so if anyone can tell me from first or second hand experiance how they (or their friends/girlfriends etc) found it, that would be a good help! Thumbs Up

Well it was an education if nothing else.

I spoke to an instructor whilst his pupil was doing it and got as much info as possible, watched his pupil do the test. He managed 53kph on the swerve test and 51kph on the emergency stop. oddly me and his instructore were both convinced he had gone faster on the swerve and too slow on the emergency stop.

My friend did the slalom, figure of 8 and u-turn faultlessly, but was too slow on the swerve/emergency stop. She also left a cloud of smoke and a long black streak across the tarmac on her second attempt. It was spectacular (stuntman style, in a dead straight line) and I was quite proud of how she corrected it and stopped afterwards.

One thing I learnt was that when you have to push/pull the bike into a parking space, you can faff about as much as you like, even do a 3/4/5 point turn as long as you start and finish in the right place and facing the right direction.
