Tiny After-market Indicators

Just a thought:

I know a lot of people fit after-market indicators as they look better than a lot of OEM ones, but many of the ones I see just don't give out enough light in my view.

As someone who pays attention and looks out for bikers when riding/driving I find I have to look carefully to see a lot of bike indicators, especially one with almost a 'point' source of light and a small reflector.

A doddery, inattentive driver is not going to notice. I wouldn't feel comfortable riding a bike with small indicators on a motorway or in town.

I would agree that a lot of the aftermarket indicators are poxy at giving out any light. A small bulb and lousy (or non existent) reflector is going to mean many people are gong to miss them.

I put some small-ish LED indicators on my Bandit, and they're bright as anything. I don't think they're in any danger of being invisible, even to the blind morons that drive cages around here. Having said that, though, it wouldn't surprise me if they did manage to not see a red bandit with a loud(ish) pipe on it. Inconspicuous is not a term that's usually applied to me.

Obviously some indicators are better than others, but even a bright light from a very small point source doesn't necessarily stand out too well from the background. Light 'output' is also dependent on reflector shape and size. Headlamp reflectors are larger than indicators for a reason.

Personally, I don't bother. I've yet to see a example where I think "Wow, those indicators really set off the bike!"

I agree with the directional comment, because yes, LEDs are by their nature directional.
As for looking like the owner couldn't be arsed getting decent ones: I bought mine because I wasn't a great fan of the fact that the stock Bandit indicators look like small housebricks (and I use the term small quite loosely, there), and LED indicators shouldn't drain as much power.
I know that in normal use, one doesn't use the indicators for long stretches of time, so the power saving is negligible, but I was on a bit of a power-saving bender a couple of months ago, so got the HID headlamp as well, in the hope that I could make the battery last a bit longer.

I fitted some cheap motrax (I think) ones, they're a lot brighter than stock. Find a picture of a GPz305 with stock indicators, you'll see why

Especially on older bikes I hate original indicators, they are so bulky.

i stuck with the standard, bulky originals for this very reason. I tried micro indicators and although they apparently have brighter bulbs, my car driving mates told me they couldn't see them properly.
