Im after a new rucksack as mine has finally died after 10 years. It needs to be comfy and with a chest strap and around the 25 litre mark.

Im drawn to the kriega R25, anyone got or used one? what are they like?

Any other suggestions on what rucksack to get??

waste of cash if you ask me dude, get down to Millets or any outdoor shop and pick up one from there. I always think that these "bike rucksacks" are well overpriced just because its supposedly better! bollocks!! cant get much better than a Berghaus or something.

An excellent bag Thumbs Up I didn't pay top whack for mine though. I haven't tested the Knox one (which just looks like a boggo rucksack?) and have no idea about the gericke jobby.

Very comfortable and you don't notice that you're wearing it really. Be prepared for parachute jokes.

I've got the R-15, fits very well, good strappage, well made, but a fair bit of wasted space inside with stupid and un-necessary pockets that seem to be more for "aren't I clever" show than function.

I have an R20 and it's the best bag i have ever tried.

It's design is really good and the quality of the bag itself is unreal. They seemed to spare nothing. Clips are excellent, zips are fully waterproof, really can't fault it.

Only problem i have with mine is it's only a 20l. Wish i had gone for a larger size.

Camping shop with a sale on. Decent Berghaus (last years model) for £20. Bollox to bike rucksacks, well overpriced just for a label.

I've got the R25 and it gets the thumbs up, pillions have occasionally laughed at the buckles, and said a few parachute related comments, then they wore it while on the back and soon shut up.

Would reccomend them! Plus they come with like 10years guarantee
Thumbs Up

I'm torn between the R25 and R35.

Every review I've seen on either has been nothing but praise in every regard bar the price with some long termers even noting the pack surviving spills just fine.

The R35 has useful front pockets but given the size of it I'd imagine it getting annoyingly cumbersome for regular use.

Hein Gericke tends to stock them and incidently seems to be the cheapest place short of ebay for picking them up as you don't need to pay any delivery Thumbs Up

I need to persuade my local branch to borrow one and do a lap of town with it, my regular laptop backpack is like a torture rack on the bike. Either my bag is really really crappy or my back just sucks Wink

Why only look at bags that say there for motorbikes?

Have a look at skate (skateboard) bags, most of them have a bit on the front to hold a skateboard which is good for other stuff, most of them are quite a good size, also they have lots of pockets and so on.

I've been using a Dakine bag for the past 8 years, so they do last!

I have the R35. Great big, fit loads in, and the strap system is great. You do truly forget about the back as you don't feel any weight/pressure on your shoulders thanks to how it does up against your cheast.

Downside is when off the bike it's pants to carry around over your shoulder.

Kriega products are excellent quality.
Not used their rucksacks but used their tail packs and love them.

Pricey tho.

I have the R35 and one point about it is that it takes a full face lid, well good at bike races etc. It is a pain when not done up properly and is large-ish but I think it's a cracking rucksack.

Cheers

Why not try something different and get noticed?

I've got a boblbee megalopolis and i find it bloody good and very comfortable to use with full load at speed.

I've crashed in it, ridden in a rainstorm in it, carried my laptop, External Hard Drive, PS2, Camera, CD's from London to Edinburgh on it - done my shopping on it. AND it doubles as a back protector - get it from that link - ebags.co.uk for 55 quid. You can get it resprayed since it is safe (ABS is sprayable)

I use the R35 everyday on my commute to work - its absolutely fantastic.

I honestly forget that im wearing it most of the time it is that comfortable.
It is waterproof, it has plenty of pockets and if you dont want to use the whole 35ltr capacity it has good strapping to stop it flapping around. The modular add-ons such as the US-10 make this an excellent touring bag as well.

The knox aeropack is an okay backpack but its just an ordinary backpack with a net sack at the end of teh day.
The new knox six-pack bag is absolutely terrible though - steer well clear.

The kriega gear is highly reccomended - has a 10 year guarantee as well.

soft panniers are better than a ruck sack if you are riding.

If you dont want to be carrying around panniers when you get to your destination, just take a rucksack in the panniers, and when you get there, put the panniers in the rucksack.

I reckon the best cheap rucksacks wont be much worse than the most expensive rucksacks.

One thing i'd say on a bike, is that its good to have a ruck sack that doesnt have side pockets, as they can get in the way of rear observations.

So the rucksacks designed to be used while climbing are ideal. as they dont have side pockets.

If people prefer to spend any money they have, the slight advantages of the pricey rucksack may be worth it.

Sorry colin but to me that kinda defeats to objective, just carry rucksack to start with.

I went to Infinity and got a KNOX 'Aeropack?' for £30, is an awesome bit of kit and would recommend to anyone without a doubt.

I would also recommend the Kreiga 25 - I use one to commute 50 miles a day and it is great.

As noted it is a bit of a pain off the bike if you have to carry it a long way, and you get the odd "suicide bomber" joke. But on your back on the bike you completely forget you are wearing it. The compression straps help stop it flapping if you are not carrying much, I got mine off ebay.

Bit the bullet and picked up an R25 the otherday as I frequently ferry laptops for work. My old padded laptop backpack was like a torture rack after 10 minutes (and about as waterproof as a sponge). I've managed 30miles with an old IBM keyboard and 4 litres of coke in the Kreiga and it was comfortable the entire time, it really does a stunning job of hiding the weight on your back.

The only failing I've noticed so far is that you can't reach any pockets without taking it off, it should come with a slimmed down kube pocket on the harness as standard imho.

I can fit my shoes, a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt in my R25 with ease, if they were big boots it'd probably be a bit of a squeeze though. Hein Gericke still seem to stock them so I'd suggest seeing if your local branch has one in stock that you can try for size.

As a difference of opinion, have you thought of not wearing a rucksack on the back? I don't like the restriction of wearing a pack, and like even less the potential injuries one amy cause if I came off.

I strap my rucksack to the pillion seat with a cargo net and a couple of bungies, takes 10 seconds. Do it even if I'm just riding the 10miles to work. Much nicer.
