At the present time I am organising another trip to the Nurburgring but this time I am aiming to come back via Holland following a night in Amsterdam. Now I have read up about Amsterdam being rather an expensive place and a bit of a sh*t hole but even so I want to include it in thisn trip.

So what I am looking for is a place for a group of us to stay, somewhere half decent but not extravagant. We will each be arriving with bikes/cars so parking is a must too. Has anyone got any recommendations? Very Happy

I think you may have bother.

Bets way into the dam (certainly with cars) is to park at the park and rides on the outskirts and get the train in - which is free with the cost of the parking, only £5 per day.

Most are multistory/underground, so should be secure enough.

We left our rented van in such a place, with our bikes on the back, on the way to the ring last year.

Does have a bit of a reputation for being a bad place to leave vehicles due to vandalism etc. Last time I went by car about eight years ago I emailed the tourist info and they suggested the carpark beneath the Ajax stadium as a good place to park. Seemed safe enough. There's a station there IIRC to take you into the centre.

Things may have changed but worth looking at.

I'm not sure if this would be any help, and haven't tried it myself yet, but I was thinking about this a while back.

I think there are some campsites that are fairly close to the city center (a pushbike ride or short public transport or perhaps taxi ride away).

For example:

https://www.campingzeeburg.nl/index.php?page=home-english
https://www.campingzeeburg.nl/index.php?page=from-city-centre

There may be other sites like this not too far out too.

They offer cabins if you didn't want to camp out that probably work out cheaper than a hotel if there are a few of you. If you're taking tents anyway that may be cheaper still.

My reasoning was that it'd be cheaper and perhaps nicer to stay somewhere like that for a couple of days and just travel into the city center for a look around, less hastle for me having to put up with city center traffic on the bike, and that the bike being a bit more out of the way and with people around (perhaps someone there you could ask to keep an eye on it), it might be a bit safer.

I'm not sure if this reasoning is sound, but if I make it into Europe this year and take the ferry to Holland rather than ride down to dover into france, this is what I've been considering (whether I make it or not is another matter as it looks like I'm going to have some dentists bills ontop of other things to pay now that have set me back a bit Sad ).

Might depend what you consider half decent though and if a cabin would be good enough. They look pretty good to me though for the price : https://www.campingzeeburg.nl/index.php?page=cabin-pictures

Thanks for the input, this trip I am arranging is a hotel/b&b trip all of the way, rather than a camping expedition. If I can find a hotel that has reasonably good parking arrangements then that will do fine. Thumbs Up

I have ridden to Amsterdam a few times on the bike, ITs not so great for cars but for bikes you get all the benefits of the cycle city but with 0-60 of a couple of seconds... I always left my bike outside whichever building i was in Coffeeshop/hotel/whatever. No tickets.
