Hi,
So ive bought myself a 125 bike and i passed my CBT back in march 2006 to go about on the scooters i've got the bike insured taxed mot'd. But some people have said i need to retake my CBT since it had been been over 2years of me holding the license can anyone
verify this? As i cant see why i would be able to get insurance if my CBT was expired.

You need a valid CBT to ride legally on the roads *
They only last 2 years

They arent on any computer system anywhere, so insurance companies just believe that you have one

If you get stopped by the police you are riding without a license, which means they can jump up and down on you repeatedly. And will likely take your bike off you

£100 gets you a new cert. Thumbs Up



* There are a few exceptions, but i am not 100% on what they are, something to do with when you got your full car license, but it is over 10 years ago i think.

Do you have a full car licence ?

I doub't that ins co check for your licence status.

They're right, the insurance company are trusting you that you've got the correct licence. If you had a smash and they found out your CBT had expired they more than likely wouldn't pay out.

You need a valid CBT cert with you to take the test sadly.

"a DL196 certificate validating a provisional moped or provisional motorcycle entitlement lasts for two years - CBT will have to be retaken if both theory and practical tests are not passed within the two year certificate life"


Also license is the correct spelling.
