Hello, This is a bit of a weird request, But I want you to try and convince me why I should NOT to get a full sleeve.

I love full sleeve tattoo's but i've never thought of actually having one untill the past few months.

Apart from the usual job, clubs, posh birds etc. What else might I be affected by? Does anyone have a full sleeve, What have you encountered which has been effected by it?

The main one I can think of is if I decide in the future I don't like it (Which has happened with a tattoo I already have) then it's not really in a position to be hidden all the time. I guess this boils down to seriously thinking about what I want.

Any advice appreciated. Thumbs Up

Mate has a sleave on both arms. He is happy with it but cost a fortune and alot of time - I think most he had was 6 hour session and had to stop.

It's not really something you can ask other people about as such. I have tattooes below t-shirt level and planning a sleeve on my right arm.. just take your time designing it and make sure you're 100% happy with the design... when you are happy put it on your wall / by computer / etc so you see it lots and after a couple of months make sure you still love the design............ if so, then go for it Thumbs Up

In this day and age I don't think visible tattoos will stop you with anything. I honesty don't think employers will be that put off with them any more. It's a lot more acceptable these days and a lot lot more common. I'm sure theres a few places that are strict against it.. but I doubt you'll come across it that much... even the police dont have a problem with it (as long as its not offensive) as I've seen a few coppers on duty with sleeved arms.......

I have a full sleeve, right arm. Left arm is being started next year.

Not had any bother over it, and I often wear short sleeves at work. I work in the civil service, in an office. Often people want to have a look at it, but thats all.

I cover it up for interviews, but anyone sharp eyed can see the bottom of it poking out under my shirt.

It will take a long time and cost a lot. Mine is almost finished now, I've been having it done for nearly a year, averaging one 4 hours session every 3 weeks, or a bit more.

They cost a lot too. I've sunk over 2 grand into mine so far.

As said, they don't really mind too much anymore in most places, I've got a half sleeve on my left and as I'm going for traditional Japanese artwork its more acceptable than most things. I'm keeping it under short sleeve shirt level until I'm a bit older and settled in a career though.

As said, it does cost alot of money, but as I love tattoos I don't really mind, even when people make fun of me for spending so much on them!

Oh wait you wanted reasons not to? Embarassed

Quite smart, But i'm no cake boy. lol.
I already have the cash, And it won't be done in one session so I don't need it all right away anyway.

Phantomtek, Very good job on the tiger, How much are you being charged per hour on that?

I went to a small place for my first tattoo, Alough I had heard good things about the guy that owns the tattoo shop, I wasn't totally happy with his work and attitude, Some slight mistakes, Colouring outside the outline etc and I thought he was quite rude. I wouldn't trust him with a piece so big.

There's a few places in Belfast which have very very good reputations and there is waiting lists but that dosen't bother me. Am I likley to be charged a lot per hour at these places or less per hour because it's probably a 20+ hour job? What's the going rate for a reputable artist?

Here's a few pics of the type of thing I really like, I want it similar but with a few personal alterations for my closest family members names and other things to be incorporated.

I also like this, I would remove the skull and replace it with something else.

Thanks for all the info guys. Thumbs Up

Depends if you actually have muscle. Sleeves still look gay but barely passable on guys with alot of muscle.

Otherwise they just look gay and only little sad emo kids get it done.

Here's a pic of the top of my sleeve - this is going to be gone back over and made a lot brighter. Pics of the full thing will be shown once I've got it finished - going to take lots of pics and stitch them all together in photoshop.

Looks cool Robby can't wait to see it finished.

Just a question about sleeves.... if you get a full sleeve, then bulk up considerably, will it effect the tattoo much? or will it just expand with your arm and look the same? I don't mean going from skinny to arnie swartz... I just mean putting on a fair bit of muscle over time.... ?
