Used to do lots, but haven't for a couple of years now.
Couple of indoor facilities nearby, but the sea cliffs near here are fantastic. Much more fun outdoors, unless it's cold then I'm a wimp!
Done all sorts, but mainly bolted routes here and seconding. Have led a couple of trad routes but not very high grade. Mainly trad stuff in North Wales and Scotland.
..........and yes, cool it is (but cool I am not!) ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

I'm still scared of heights to a degree too, but it's a bit sadisitc trying to overcome it which is what gives you the rush.
I've been well known for feffing and jeffing all the way up a route, having major hissy fits on the face and then grinning from ear to ear at the top and then going back to do it all again!
Very addictive indoors on routes as you can guage how you're progressing - it's a bit like chess on a rock face, very challenging mentally and then physically too! ____________________ 'The core of a man's spirit comes from new experiences'

I remember years ago at primary school they bought in a fourty foot trailer that stood upright as a climbing wall, can't remember what it was in aid of but everyone lined up for ago...
Me being me I was late coming out of the class, as soon as I walked out, saw it all set up and kids geared up ready to climb it, looked up and said " Fuck That "...
Teacher heard me and sent me back to class to do two hundred lines..." I must not swear "...

Im goint to butt in and ruin the SV club, sorry
Never really had a decent go at any indoor or outdoor climbing, but there is a very good indoor place in mile end (london) which i went to a few years back.
Also last week i did do this
https://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee81/paddy2007dug/meandneilclimbing.jpg
Im the closer one of the two.
15/20 meter free climb down an almost verticle cliff and then back up again, was pretty damn cool when i was doing it, such a stupid idea looking back though.

I'm really missing going climbing - a friend and I went regularly (at least once a week) to an indoor wall nearby. She's moved to Ireland for a year so I have no partner
*cries*
We were climbing 6s (not very impressive) generally, but like Tonka said - it's really theraputic, the rhythm and balance and mental planning. I love it ____________________ Avast! Pirates ahoy!

I do some climbing. I can do some of the 5+ pitches but I'm pretty overweight and inexperienced (oddly, I've done lots of belaying before with the cadets and TA but not much climbing).
What is funny is my girlfriend (at 45kg) belaying me (at 105kg). I'm not 100% happy with the arrangement they make us use at the indoor wall for the bottom belays as it has her tied into it and tied to a sandbag.
I would be much happier with her belaying me directly off a ground anchor which would mean she can a) arrest a big fall without flying into the air and becoming part of it and b) escape from the belay if required without dropping me.
I've been told if they catch me using a ground anchor instead of sandbags again I wont be allowed back because "That's not how we do it here.". So flying girlfriend it is. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Sorry aboutthe dodgy picture. But if you look to the top left of the roof, there is a grill, below that is a striaght fall right to the floor. Quess which tit head had his picture taken whilst hanging off it with 1 arm lol.
This is thornton abbey-

Rode past it one day, and thought got to have that, so went back that night and climbed it in total darkness.
Cheers

I've been half a dozen times, indoor in Derby. Still very much learning, so not attempted lead climbing yet.
Scuppered at the moment so it will probably be a while till I get chance to go again, which is a shame as I was really getting into it. ____________________ CBR125|||GSXR400|||CBR400|||CBR400|||CB250RS|||GSXR750|||CB250RS

Seems there are quite a few BCF climbers!!
Stinky - would you be interested in Portland this w/e!!?!?! ... we try and match belay weight to climber weight, but attaching a light delayer to a rock or gear/rucksacks when climbing outdoors has always served us well!!
The warped one ... Not really interested in free climbing buildings etc I'm a bit of a clumsy fool and its just too risky if there is no 'backup' system in place to prevent my falling to my death!! ... ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |
