It's been a good few years since Wolfmother had some new material, but given that 2/3 of the band left about a year ago I imagine that must have been a bit of a stumbling block, so I'll let them off!

Anyway, apparently a new album is imminent and as a celebration of this they have decided to give you a track for free (provided you put an email address on their website (or alternatively it's all over the torrent sites, just search 'Wolfmother - Back Round')

Can't wait for it - anyone know if they are confirmed for any festivals this year incidentally? In the meantime lets remind ourselves how good they are!

I liked their stuff when I first heard it, because I thought they were a modern led zeppelin.

Now I can't listen to it as they sound like a pastiche of led zeppelin rather than anything original.

I dunno, I kind of see what you are saying and I'll give you that their singles were pretty 'anthemic', but there is a lot of other more weird stuff on the album - more like The White Stripes or Raconteurs kinda stuff. They're also not quite as serious as Zep (no massive solos, no songs about elves played on a mandolin that last 13mins etc) which I quite like too, just a bit of fun really.

On the live front, (what's left of) Zeppelin aren't exactly spring chickens anymore, and a ticket to see them would be very rare (and rape your wallet) whereas Wolfmother are young (ish - didn't realise the guy was in his 30s!) so they are cheaper and more energetic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Zep fan, but I just feel they bring something a bit different to the table. Or maybe it's just that I had an amazing T in the Park the first year they played and it kind of goes along with the memories of that Laughing
