Google can answer most of those questions for you, you don't need an actual person to tell you about that era...

" Was the music of the fifties very different to the music of the forties and why ? "...

Look at bands that were around in that eras and see what types of music they played, I;E swing, soul, blues etc...

" Was life different in the fifties than the forties and how ? "...

Look up what the social differencies were during those two decades and pick out a few differences...

" Was it good fun being a young person in the fifties and why ? "...

Look up what hobbies people had then and what popular games were played, and what social events were availiable...

" Who were your favorite singers or groups in the fifties and why? "...

Look up who was around then, type them in Youtube and listen to some of their songs and write a small piece about what you liked about them as though you had asked someone from that era...

" What kind of clothes did you were in the fifties and did you like this fashion ? "...

Look up fashions of that era to see what was popular and write a small piece about what you liked about them as thopugh you've spoken to someone of that are...

And do the same for the next set of questions, you're not cheating by doing this you're just using your own initiative and doing a bit of research...

Hope that helps you...

Yes, 1940's was predominantly drum, the 1950's was all about the bass. I have often wondered what would happen if you combined the two using a couple of gramamaphone (sic) turntables cobbled together with some radio wire.

Yes - In the 40's I was a mere whippersnapper, by the turn of the 50's however I'd reached your age and was able to smoke, drink a pint of stout at my local and buy pornography. Now, with the rise of political correctness you'll be lucky to read a couple of pages of Razzle with half a can of Shandy Bass before the PC Brigade take you into foster care.

Yes, some pop beat combo called the Beatles became popular and started repeating lyrics over and over (She love's you YEAH YEAH YEAH; HELP! I need somebody, HELP! Not just anybody, HELP!..., etc) much to the delight of stuttering music lovers in North West of England - Glenn Miller would've turned in his Big Band grave.

Yeah, by this time I'd graduated from Stout to Magic Mushrooms which were served in cockle bags at my local (The Cutlass 'n Goolies). Incidentally my local is widely regarded as the place where Karaoke was born after Gerry and the Pacemakers paid us a visit and cleared out every bag of M 'n M's in the joint before writing 'You'll never walk Alone' on the back of a coaster.

amber wrote:

Yeah, the 'shrooms were banging and Elvis Presley visited me at my little cottage made of Irn Bru bottles and Marshmallows for marital advice on a regular basis - In fact I can confirm that Priscilla does indeed have a 'Nice Beaver' after he showed me pictures of her on his mobile device.

amber wrote:

Stanley 'Dairyman' Daily - Milkman by day and Karaoke King by night, the Dairyman could rock the crowd at The Cutlass and Goolies to its' knees even on a bad night after he'd had a day of cleaning empty's.

amber wrote:

I used to rock Mary Quant Microskirt's, Sequinned Boob Tubes and thigh high waders. What can I say...? I turned heads.

Goto the local library's music section and ask the librarian for music from that time and listen to it. Also, ask the person about where to get info, if necessary, about the culture & fashion around that time period.

Well I remember listening mostly to young beethoven in the '40s but the '50s was the birth of Hip Hop so it was very different.
Also you must remember that the dinosaurs died out circa 1949, be sure to include that in your homework. Industry was changed vastly by the death of the dinosaurs, though the marginal increase in wooly mammoths and HDTV made the 50s a very profitable decade.

As for being young, well, young people hadn't been invented yet, so that is a moot question.
People mostly wore onion costumes and teabags sewn together.

As for the 60s, sorry I can't help you, that was a long time before the 40s and 50s and so I wasn't alive.

Considering the questions are asking for comparisons to the 40s so assume the interviewee needs to have been at least 10 in 1940 really to remember what it was all like then you need an audience of 80 year olds....*looks around*, try the national nursing homes forum.

No trace of him was ever found after he 'disappeared', so strictly speaking, i don't think he has a grave to turn in.
There's this:

But it doesn't actually contain his remains.

Apologies for actually being vaguely serious in this thread. Carry on with the sillyness chaps......

Tell her to contact some local nursing homes to see if they could arrange for her to interview the residents. I'm sure the old ladies would love to relive their youth to a young girl.

She is 10 FFS, she doesn't know what a library is and downloads music all day long from the web, as for the fashion, I am sure google image will suffice Wink

I can't answer the first two as I was born in 1964 and was always rubbish at history so I have no idea what life in the 40s was like, sorry.

It was great fun being a small child in the 60s. We had a lot of freedom, and were allowed to play out for hours and hours as long as our parents knew approximately where we were. There was much less traffic on the roads than there is now, so it was not as dangerous for us to be able to go to places on our own even when we were still quite little. We hardly ever watched tv, there were only 3 channels and although most people had a telly by the late 60s a lot of programmes were still in black and white and there weren't many programmes specially made for children like there are now. Going on a long car journey was an adventure, and for holidays we usually went to stay with relatives in different parts of the country.

Again I was too young to remember a lot of the music of the 60s although my mum tells me I could sing "yeah yeah yeah" like the Beatles when I was about 2! I do remember the first 2 songs that I used to hear on the radio that really made an impact on me and made me start thinking that music was a fun and essential thing to have in your life. They were "My Sweet Lord" by George Harrison and "Where's Your Mama Gone" by Middle Of The Road.

Again I was way too young to be fashionable but I remember we used to wear a lot of home-made clothes, my mum used to knit a lot and her friend did dressmaking so us kids used to get a lot of things swapped between us! Boys wore shorts all the time until they were at least 13, and girls mostly wore dresses or skirts, we didn't have trousers. There were no tracksuits and children didn't wear jeans, but even then we used to pester for things like football strips of our favourite teams and platform shoes.

Hope that helps.

Oh and Shaun Middle Finger Mr. Green

It was a suggestion - I Started going to my local library with my relatives from Kindergarten age to read, and later in the years they added music & video. The librarian has a wealth of knowledge and can steer the person in the correct direction for possible info on the subject that she is interested in. The internet is also good source of information by searching on particular key words.

Thanks for the replies particularly you Babyyam! Thumbs Up

As easy as it would have been to send her to the library or let her Google the answers the homework was specifically about asking people and comparing their answers.

The home work was issued Friday and has to be handed in Monday, not a lot of time to start wandering round the old folks homes, and as both of my parents are dead, and both the mrs's are senile they wouldnt of made good interviewees.

I think typically a lack of thought has gone in to issuing this homework, its just a photocopy of a work book that was probably first printed in the 80's when there were a few more people around that remember those decades.

In that case, make the answers up. Use plenty of references to wanton sex and drugs.

All schools must have used the same sheet of paper for the last 5 years. my son had the same questions 5 years ago, my daughter 2 years ago ( dug out the same answers ) So much for teachers prepping.

The main difference between the 40's & 50's is that we weren't being bombed by the bloody krauts in the 50's

Rimmer: Aliens! They're probably gonna return Glenn Miller.

Lister: What?

Rimmer: That's what they do. All those people who inexplicably vanish, they return them. Aw smeg that's all we need, Glenn Miller on board, boring us to death with Pennsylvanaia 6-5000. Kryten, open communication channels. (To the spacecraft) We don't want him. Go away. You took him, you can keep the smegger!
