May go and see one. Are there any differences? apart from cosmetics and the front forks. What to look for? etc...

VFR - 1990 G reg, done 21,500miles, looks immaculate (in the pics) - £1600

RVF - 1994, done 18,000km, condition looks good (pics) - £2000

Both are from dealers

Thanks Thumbs Up

here's the two in question:

The VFR is from a dealer I know, it's where I bought my CBR from.

I'd opt for the NC30 - it's more standard and I recall seeing the bike on 400greybike. Its previous owner might still be available there. It appears to have a converted RS250 rear shock - so chances are the front forks (look very fresh in the photos) were done as well.

The RVF has a non standard paintjob and weren't as well built in the first place, there are better examples about for 2 grand.

The engines on these bikes are pretty bomb proof - but their reg/rectifiers are shoddy - check the charging system if you can. Other than that, if the brakes and suspension are fresh, should be fine.

Thanks for that, I'm complete n00b so wouldn't have noticed any of that. Another n00b question but how would I check the charging system?

I'd ask the dealer straight to start with and then maybe ask to see proof of that. Or ask them to check it for you.

Not difficult to spot - stick a voltmeter over the battery terminals, rev the bike to about 5k. Any register over 14.5 volts or so would indicate the charging systems a little on the poorly side.

It's an easy fix - if you catch it in time. Symptoms range from starting issues to regular bulb blowing....

Thanks for the help! much appreciated Thumbs Up

I should only have to pay £600 for it because last time I asked he said he'd give me 1k for my bike. Hopefully all will go well Praying

Firstly, for the price of the VFR I thought hmm def RVF, but yes I did notice the fairing too. Its got the diff colour 'V4' Bit that gives it away, and the nosecone red is off. So this could be start of other things. The VFR is in my opinion the nicest of the VFR colours too, and looks to be well kept. Rearsets look well high on it!

there are two colour schemes for the RVF, the RR and RT, that looks like the first rvf's colour scheme, RR if i remember correctly.

one thing to check is the connectors between the rear and front pipes at the bottem as these tend to rot very badly.

generally both bikes are very reliable, not had a single mechanical problem with my bike as of yet.

personally i'd go for RVF as it looks more modern

It's close - the RR does have the 'RVF' logo in white, but there is a block of dark blue missing in the example shown. The paint quality, even in the low res pic looks different between the red of the nose cone and the red of the mid panel.

The RR model's paint job should look like this (HRC and Dunlop decals non-standard):

You need to have rather um.... short legs???? yeah short legs to ride either of these bikes comfortably and not look like a complete goon in the process. If you are quite tall I would deffinately go and see the actual size of them because when I was hunting for a bike I considered both the VFR and RVF until I found out just how tiny they actually are....

EDIT: out of the two though I would have the RVF.

Out of those two I'd go for the NC30, especially if it's a UK bike as oppose to an import.

UK bikes are rare and command a premium.

They're definitely aftermarket - SES Racing versions I believe.

A sensible mod - if you're short of leg, as the NC30's first stock handling disadvantage is its ground clearance. The bike also appears to have braided lines, plus that previously mentioned rear shock. Again, sensible mods and ones that may need to be carried out on the more 'stock' RVF example.

Precisely why that's the one I'd get. Wink

Doesn't mention one way or the other though. Can't remember the years they offered the NC30 in the UK off the top of my head. Smile

Thanks for the help anyway, I'll post again once I've found something and ready to buy Thumbs Up
