I'm after a camera, not a fancy DSLR one, just a point and snap digi one.

Something that take good pictures has a good battery life and is fairly simple to use. I also want one that can do video, I dont really wanna spend much more than £100.

I have a few holidays/trips coming up and I will need a better camera than my phone. I don't mind buying second hand if someone has one they don't want.

The Canon Ixus series cameras are good value. I have a PowerShot SD1100 IS. Cost me just over a ton.

I second that - my 'old' Canon Ixus takes fantastic pics.
Its something to do with the ccd being of the same technology as the higher end slr's + the fact that the Canon lens is very good (for a compact) ... easy to use and pretty cheap too:

My Camera - Canon Ixus 700i:

Example of the images it takes - no fancy settings - just point and click - taken on holiday a few years ago:

I was going to say...

Phones have decent camera's on these days. When I got my viewty thing it overtook my actual camera in every respect.

Also, I can superimpose a pirates eye patch, beard and hat, line up the person's face in it and take a picture... Literally second of fun to be had with it.

When will they invent a digital camera that just takes a photo, instead of the point.... press... 5 seconds later: CLICK...

I've had the Lumix TZ3 for approximately 18 months purchased on the strength of in depth investigation (for in depth investigation read 'online reviews' - bear in mind I know sod all about camera's). The Auto Flash is buggered and I've never been totally happy with the picture results so I'm looking for a new 'un.

Someone mentioned Sony Cybershot's to me but I haven't had the opportunity to have a butchers at them. It's interesting to read other people's opinion Thumbs Up

I vote for the cannon ixux range I have an ixux 70 and takes good pics, my dad is envious of it as his is a dearer camera and takes rubbish pics. I think mine is near £200 though.

I want an DSLR cam now.

They do but they aint the cheap point and click type. Mine from power on to first shot something like 0.16 of a second...so it says in the manual!!!I've never managed to point it at something that quick tbh Very Happy

canon 40d by the way...now replaced model wise by the 50D and I got to say I hate a gap from taking the shot to actually getting it!! But some of these £100 mark digi cams are getting bloody good now when I've been asked to take some snaps for friends the newer cams work bloody well

I don't quite understand why they take so long though, I rarely use the flash for example and still only ever get the arse end of what ever I happen to be snapping...

This is supposed to be progress goddamnit!

I ended up spending much more money on a Canon but when I was looking ~ £100 this is where I was going to spend my money:
https://reviews.cnet.co.uk/digitalcameras/search/016-1/latest/Olympus/compact/latest-olympus-digitalcameras.htm

By the way, that's a really good site for reviews.

Absolutely - 5x upwards ideally. Don't be fooled by "overall" zoom levels, ie pretty much ignore digital zoom. Using optical zoom usually = no loss in quality, more digital zoom pretty much = major loss in quality

Nothing more frustrating than 3x optical when you're not in a position to get a bit closer.

I went round the shops and had a play, I got throughly frustrate with poor shop assistants nd shops that wouldn't turn the camera on. In the end I bought the TZ4 as I liked my sisters TZ3 it has a 10x optical zoom.

Right my Memory card came today, I got a fairly decent one (Class 6)

The burst mode on the camera is amazing, I took about 20 pics at 9.1 mp in about 10 seconds.

https://farm3.static.flickr.com/2275/3556516315_3b99434648_b.jpg

Here is my dog this was taken at 10x optical zoom. It has been resized by flickr

https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3641/3556521021_c0f6fb51b9_b.jpg

Here she is with no zoom.

Can somebody explain ISO and white balance to me, I'm not sure what they mean. I also have a light histogram which I have no idea how to read.[/url]
