Hi lads, sure many of you own / have owned one. What did you think to them. I have a cbr 600f at the moment. Bored stupid with it aswell as road riding a little bit. So thinking a change. What do you make of the hornets?

The hornet has the cbr engine slightly detune and i think the gear or some other black magic is different aswell, so i dont think its going to be that much of a change for you. Otherwise its a cracking bike.

Excellent bike, absolutely bullet proof. Good value for money aswell nowadays. Had a white '05 Hornet 600. Regret selling it, put 3k on it last year with no probs whatsoever. Old school engineering that works.

Range is poor though, expect about 100-120miles out of a tank including reserve. As with all bike's they're quite sensitive to tyre choice aswell. Also, watch out for rust around the chassis as they're made in italy, however they normally get abit of rust around the lower tri-clamps, that's normal. The electrics are from Ducati aswell, not really a problem as such.

I know they're same engine as I have in the cbr i'm just toying with a different style of bike may be a bit more fun. Since starting track days road ridings felt a bit cack so i'm thinking a naked bike may be the way to go. Something a bit different so to speak

I went from a Hornet to a CBR6 and i still miss my Hornet, it felt lighter and more 'flickable' (probably because i had big wide renthals on it but still) it was brilliant, i LOVE the 16 inch front wheel too on the older ones.

BH - I found that in a search after doh lol. Good review though. What's your experience based on the hornet compared to a sports bike BH?

Had a CBR6 then had a hornet as a hire bike for 3 months. At first its a bit of a change and is good fun, they are great bikes after all, but eventually you find yourslef riding it as hard as the CBR6 and finding the pogo-stick element of the suspension. They are similar to the CBR in the way they deck out the pegs VERY early and the top end grunt (or lack of it) in comparison to the CBR6 will inevitable grate a bit.

I think they are great bikes but between the one you have already and the hornet, you're not going to get much out of the swap! Wink

Hmmm decisions, defo getting the cbr gone just the replacement. Don't suppose anyone knows if the cbr rear shock can be thrown onto the hornet if thats a weak area?

Definitely get a test-ride. I'd consider it like a CBR, with significant added blandness!

Could always just take the fairings off and stick some wide bars on the CBR Smile.

Significant added blandness, not filling me full of confidence lol.

Other than that i'm stuck on ideas what would be half decent fun to ride on road. Shying away from sports bikes etc

it's what I'd do (well it's what I have done to my FZR) 30 quid for some bar clamps, tenner for bars, 20 for a pair of headlight brackets, tenner for a headlight and indicators from a breakers.

small front sprocket for 6 quid and your away.

Personally I found the CBR more bland, but there you are. The hornet has bouncier suspension and is a naked so it feels like you're going much faster than you are.

I personally found them a bit of a hoot to ride.

BH - What main diff did you notice between the two. I'll have to book up for a test ride but a few opinions wont hurt until then. I find my cbr very forgiving and stable front end rarely wants to lift etc. Is the hornet similar or a bit more 'raw' if thats the right word.

If you are expecting the Hornet to be pulling your arms out and wheelie everywhere under power then you're going to be disappointed. I wouldnt be fooled by the fact that its got the detuned CBR6 engine, the one I had obvioulsy didn't have the top end of the CBR but at the same time it didnt make it up in any other area. It may have been a bit more friendly under the throttle at times but not in the same league as the CBR really.

Also seemed to have a less quality finish than my CBR had too. The CBR is a comfortable all rounder, definately not worth swapping in my opinion. Thumbs Up

It's more sat up, easier to boss around. Engine is pretty much the same. It's easier to wheelie too due to the more sat up position.

I found it more practical and more fun to be honest.
