OK, so maybe I should have put a comma after help Wink

We are off to Southend in the summer holidays to visit my Dad who's just come back to live in dear Blighty after 6 years in France (your guess is as good as mine), and last time I was there I was a young childless singleton.

This time round couldn't be more different, two older children, 11 & 8 and two littlies 2 and 9 mths, and a reticent OH.

Any ideas for things to do, I know there's a pier and lots of arcade places (which don't float me Northern boat).

Any help much appreciated.

They have spent a lot of money on the rides and attractions there now, shame the dodgy amusement arcades are the same as circa 1990.

Chav watching on a Fri / Sat night may be for a laugh in their pimp phat whips. Speed bumps and traffic lights have hindered somewhat but they still persist as best they can.

Lakeside or even Bluewaters is always an option for a little retail therapy as Southend high street is not all that.

Sort of struggling of things now and I was a local.

One word of wisdom though.

Dont ask for gravy or mushy peas on your chips, we'll be having none of that northern shite down here!

The Kursall bowling place isn't bad, if you fancy a bit of ten pin, or along the arcades, one of them has mini ten pin which smaller kids would like. Adventure island has a lot of rides and things for kids of all ages and it's not too expensive. It kept us (me, missus, 6 year old, 5 year old and 1 year old) occupied for an afternoon. Fish and chips on the sea front to finish things off. Thumbs Up

Cheers for the suggestions. So its not really worth going for a fortnight then maybe a weekend break Laughing

Oh well, we'll just have to travel a bit and do lots of beach days.

Southend won't keep you going for 2 weeks at all, but you'll have a lot of time to explore the rest of Essex, there are plenty of hidden away villages, farms, country pubs, weird shops etc if you have access to a car.
