Looking at buying a car on ebay.
In short it's on 3 day listing and I quote the following from the sale description:

Quote:
The personalised plated is being retained by the owner and a new plate will be issued with the car on the day of sale.

How does that work? If I HPI check the plate that's on the car now but then a new one will be issued on sale of car the HPI is irrelevent as it's for the plate that's on the car at the moment?

I emailed to ask for plate that will be issued so I can HPI that and I got

Quote:
No because it will be done on the same day so hasn't been issued yet but you can hpi the number plate on the listing and it will show clear

Forgive my neivity/ignorance I really don't know how the DVLA/plate side of things work. The Gfs looking to buy the car so naturally I don't want her to have issues with it.

Kind regards Auntie BCF!!!

It wont be a new plate, it will be the original plate. The DVLA/HPi/police records will all cross reference both plates.

If you're not sure then get the VIN number from the seller as well for when you do the HPi check

tell the lazy fucker to sort it out prior to the sale, that's what people have said to me.

it can take upto 5wks for the process of removing/tranferring a plate.

i certainly wouldn't buy a car/bike where the v5 wont be present, all to save the current owner £40 quid (£80 for a transfer £120 to put it on retention)

probably leaving it on just in case the car doesn't sell.

Agreed does sound like arrogance to me.

Advised the missus to leave it be. May be an easy, innocent process but who wants to fuck around with details like that after forking out on a new car? Wink
