So, I admitted defeat and took the Hornet to a local bike garage to get the carbs balanced, and a new tyre on the front, which I'd had kicking about for a couple of months.

Picked it up just now, and on the way back, about 1/2 mile from the garage it cut out, as if the petrol tap was off. So I coasted to a halt and checked the tap position, which was set to 'on' (I checked it before I got on the bike too, I was just checking I wasn't going mental), and tried to fire it up again. Nothing. So I waited a minute and tried again, nothing doing. So I looked in the tank, plenty of juice sloshing about, I've only done 9 miles since filling it up. Switched the fuel tap to 'res' and tried again, and it fired up.

So I got back on and came back to work (it's about 6 miles). About halfway back I had the bright idea of switching it to 'on' again to see if it would conk out, but it didn't.

I'm not too chuffed with the job anyway, as it seem sluggish to pull now, whereas before it was lumpy, but keen.

So, before I phone this bloke up and give him verbal, what's BCF opinion?

I'd have called the garage from the road side, they've been tinkering in there. If its never happened before, tell them to sort it!

Otherwise, I've no idea Cool

Sounds like you've got a vacuum fuel tap and they forgot to connect the vacuum hose or something like that. I can't see why it would suddenly work when switched to 'on' though...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Maybe cos I opened up the hole where the fuel goes in? Tank is quite full, see.... I wonder... Could this vacuum pipe be squashed somewhere?

Was exactly what I and Marjay were right. I lifted the tank up a little and saw that the vent pipe was kinked and routed for comedy effect rather than actual usefulness.

So thanks Marjay Karma
